You'd be fine with the license (so long as the modified software holds the same license).  Getting it to run on new hardware would become the challenge.  Writing directly for the hardware would become a hard task.

Thanks. I started reading for that but was too lazy.

It would make some sense to use a basic Android like 2.3 or something, and add Rockbox from there. But then you introduce a Touch screen and a whole set of requirements for Android, along with some licensing fees there as well. So really neither way is ideal.

Android would be overkill...  You'd end up putting in hardware you don't need.  Run straight RockBox.  Both would need some adjustments to make it run on new hardware properly.

Please elaborate..my impending purchase of the 8a and perhaps the rendition will leave me financially sterile for awhile, which means sticking with the clip zip and iPod for quite some time

I use the J3 with the Rendition 1 along with the Tzar 350....   around 10 hrs a day.... (but with Flac)

The end result is..... ooooohhhh  so good

I don't have an i-pod so I can't report on that.

I still have this paranoia that all my music will sound like trash to the unrelenting force of the 350. Makes me want them even more though, go figure!

I remember they are shipping on the 15th or so, will they all be shipping from China then or will some have made their way to the US base by then? Also, any chance of early delivery yet? As a highly impatient person, I feel this wait will be completely worth the agony of waiting lol

Back to the topic of the Tzar 350 --- is it safe to say the bass output is somewhere between the ER4S (ER4P + 75 ohm) and the 4.Ai? If so, I like this split down the middle. The other zone of confusion is still the treble; Sorensiim complained a little of cymbals rendered by the 350 --- I can't tell if he means that it's too prominent/forward, or whether there are peaks that he's especially sensitive to. In general I find the treble response of the ER4S fairly spot on, but I'd actually want a bit more from 12-16 kHz...

It is first come first serve.  We will try our best to get stock to the USA shortly before the 15th so they can begin shipping in coordination with us here in China.

Tom, it would be hard to tell you what is going on at 12-16KHz, at least with a 2CC coupler. Graphically (at least with my equipment) the bass response "graphs the same" as the above mentioned products. But really they have a much larger dynamic range, grunt, and punch in the low end that those just do not deliver.

In my view, and really only Sorensimm can answer this, but I think he is haveing issues with treble when he is not using FLAC or other high quality recordings.

I experience this as well, they are a finicky set of IEMs for sure. Feed them the good stuff and expect great rewards.
