Heir Audio Tzar 90 and Tzar 350 Universal In Ear Monitors - Page 15

I want to try the 350 so bad... :(

Being a universal, there will be tip tuning available. They sound ruthless (in a good way) but we all know how tip selection can tame the savage beast.bigsmile_face.gif Lots harder to give us that level of info to work with.

Hello, could someone advise. Would the 90 be a better match than 350 for Fostex HP-P1. Thanks

Well, what do we have Heir?

700

Left to right: Tzar 350, 4.Ai, 3.Ai.

"Sorry kids, daddy can't play this weekend. Whine about it all you like, I can't hear ya anyway."

The 350 still makes me nervous because of how much poorly recorded music I like (see stoner metal and some hip hop)

But you know what? I'll change my listening habit for these. I'm that dedicated biggrin.gif

Also Soren, isn't it against terms of service to post such headphone porn on this site? eek.gif

Now do a comparison!

Does Heir still ship via USPS?

It's friday, I figured you could handle a little three-way... biggrin.gif

I'm looking forward to trying different sources for the 350 tomorrow. They got somewhat sibilant with my Asus Soundcard feeding the Rendition 1, on tracks that the DX100 handled without any sibilance. With good material, decent source and properly amped they are really something special.

All three have amboyna burl, the burl on the 4.Ai is slightly darker.

(More to come)

I guess we will have to wait and see. My Earproof Atoms which are 70 ohm and supposedly fairly sensitive, do not get very loud at all with a lot of players and amps. Then again my Ultrasone Signature Pro full size models are not exceptionally sensitive on paper but they sure do expose any hiss, hum, crackle, etc that an amp or DAP may have. I guess you just never know until you try.

It's friday afternoon here in Denmark - I'll get to the listening in a few hours when the kids are tucked in smile.gif

Very, very short:

3.Ai: FUN! Almost Grado-like V-shaped signature. Good (boosted) bass for drums & electro, nice highs for guitar riffs. If they were a car, they'd be a Camaro. So fun you don't care how incorrect it might be.

4.Ai: Warmish neutral, good resolution. Very good with vocals, will handle anything you throw at them and sound good out of almost anything. If they were a car, they'd be an Audi S4, fast and fun, yet practical and comfortable.

Tzar 350: Ruthlessly revealing, the word "mercy" isn't even in their vocabulary. Very demanding of the material, somewhat demanding of source and amplification. Mp3 and poor recordings need not apply. Very few would like these as their only headphones. If they were a car, they'd be the Ariel Atom V8, without ABS. Uncompromising, but potentially very rewarding.

Now for some corrections & details

1) Spelling will be TZAR (rather than TSAR) sorry my bad

2) Prices will be

A) Tzar 350 = $399                         Pre-order special is $369

B) Tzar 90 = $369                           Pre order special is $349

Shipping begins Dec 15, and they will be shipped on a "first come first serve bassis"

Pre-order special ends December 15

My opinion regarding the need for an amp or not:

I do think an amp for the Tzar 350 would be a good idea, at least when trialed it with the I-phone 4 we found it to give "adequate" loudness, but we also felt that there will be  many that wish it would play louder. That said, the Cowon J3 powers the Tzar 350 rather well, but I still use the Rendition 1 amp with it.

We are launching the Tzar series due to the prevalent use of portable amps and the continued emergence of high impedance DAPs.  We see an area the market that really has not been addressed, as there seems to be few options for those seeking high impedance IEMs to match with such DAPs.  The real question is, "Is there a demand?"

Wizard

So, now that we have some relative comparisons, where would you put the 90 in this mix. Between the 3 and 4 in tonality? and closer to which? I do expect a tighter, more controlled type character in general regardless of the tonality. My personal concern with the 90 would be more about how much (if) the top is emphasized.

Why do you make me want the potentially painful 350 so much? XD it'll be my main pair when I get them, so like I said, just gonna modify my musical tastes for them smily_headphones1.gif

I'm intrigued about the Tzar350. Was thinking of getting an ER4-S again but might go for the Tzar instead

They'll be at our meet in Aarhus tomorrow morning if you're in the neighbourhood smile.gif

I'm shipping them to Librarian next week so he can give them a spin, I'm sure he can forward them to you afterwards.
