Heir Audio Tzar 90 and Tzar 350 Universal In Ear Monitors - Page 14

I just bought a RSA Shadow. Shame that the shadow probably can not drive the Tzar 90's. Or can they... any idea?

They are nice, and safe to say, a league of their own.

If I recall correctly, the Shadow was mainly designed for low impedance headphones. I bet it would still do well with the 90, maybe just a few quiet albums won't play loud enough but most stuff will be fine. The 350 is not likely to be a good match though.

Assuming sensitivity is relatively high, the 350 should play very very loud, just induce less frequency distortion among crappy headphone out players and amps. Studio being prime example. THe Grado GR8 is over 100Ω and is just as loud for 95% of what I listen to as my ToGo! 334 is.

Both the 4.Ai and Tzar 350 are very, very nice, but completely different animals:

The 4.Ai sounds good with just about anything you throw at them. My wife has used them to listen to Lady Gaga in 320kbps Mp3 on her phone and I've used them with Louise Rogers and Hans Zimmer for 24/192 FLAC from my DX100. The 4.Ai does both things very well.

The Tzar 350 is merciless. I tried them with Lady Gaga from my DX100 (uhm... my wife must have put those files on it. Yeah. My wife.) and it was nigh impossible to listen to. Last night I tried Tracy Chapman, a very well executed 24/96 vinyl rip and her song "Behind The Wall" sounded stupidly good on the Tzar 350. I tried using my sound card (Asus Xonar DS) with the Rendition 1 amp and the Tzar and it was not that bad, but there was some sibilance the DX100 didn't show. I'll see if I can try some more sources, as a $30 sound card might not be the best there is.

Behind the wall, beautiful song, I use it as one of my test songs.

Get a hold of Tori Amos - Me And A Gun from her album "Tales of a Librarian".

More bass and less forward mids on the 4.ai? How about treble?

The 4.Ai are more "rounded" in their presentation without ever sounding rolled off. Will do A/B testing as soon as the DHL guy shows up with them...

You have a lot of other IEM's. Will you A/B some of them? Would appreciate it.

I wouldn't say "a lot" - But for some reason Heir products tend to appear on my desk. I have the 3.Ai, 4.Ai, 8.A and now the Tzar 350 is here. I have previously owned a couple of other iems as well.

I guess we ought to talk lJokerl into getting the Tzar...

Now playing: Deadmau5 - Album Title Goes Here. DX100 -> Rendition 1 -> Tzar 350. Not anemic at all, but the 8.A sure has more low-end grunt. OTOH, the Tzar has a lot more sparkle up top.

Maybe later, I hope, but he's currently removed himself from the Heir Audio World Tour. But, big news: ClieOS will get the 3.Ai, 4.Ai, and Tzar 90/350 to review!... in a couple of months, though.

That is pretty awesome! How did I miss that thread... :D

Well recorded live music on the Tzar... Well they just showed my 8.A's how to do that. Yes, my $1.200 8-driver hand built custom headphones just had their @$$ handed to them by a $370 dual-driver universal. But beware, you will want a clean source and prime recordings. And look out for the cymbals.

Edit: I have the soundtrack for this movie and while I'm not a Beatles fan, this song is just RIDONKULOUS on the Tzar!! eek.gif
