I suppose there is a thread here for digital music fies and encoding and their pros and cons I should find and read. This hobby is going to get real expensive real fast...

4 years ago I really spluged when I spent $150 on a used pair of Ultrasones... Now, after a loooong series of small, incremental upgrades my rig consists of the Ibasso DX100 and Heir 8.A as well as a O2/HD650 for my desk at home.

There's a reason that the standard greeting to new members is "Welcome to Head-Fi, sorry about your wallet!"

Back to the Tzar: I just listened to the song "Down To The River To Pray" performed by Allison Krauss and some choir whose name escapes me, from the "O Brother Where Art Thou" soundtrack... Goosebumps, literally goosebumps. The 350 will make poorly mastered and/or compressed files feel like aural rape with an ice pick, but feed them the good stuff and you will reap the rewards. I will need more listening time and a load of comparisons before doing a review, but we have something very special here I believe. Not for everyone tho, but then again, neither is the ER4 or the HD800.

Ugh. I swear I would have never thought I would get this deep in headfi, much less IEMs. I remember when someone said sorry about the wallet to me. I didn't believe them.

Anywho, how's the bass response? I hate how some reference monitors think neutral means anemic. Just do a sine sweep from 200hz down and report please :-) also thanks a ton for impressions so far soren. I'm even more excited now!

Quick note: The Rendition 1 has no problems driving my HD650's smily_headphones1.gif

Sounds like its time for me to get a better DAC and upgrade my M50s. Glad to hear the amp is good!

Perhaps an ER4 comparison is in order?

Mango, I know it would almost be impossible to change all music to lossless but from now on dont stray from lossless and if you can try and change your library to FLAC. It will be worth it as sound is as good as your weakest link.

Also Soren thanks for the impressions of the Tzar.

I'll leave the sine sweeps to the measurebators, but I just put on my favorite bass track "Chameleon" by Trentemøller and these are NOT anemic! Not exactly for bass heads but I believe they match the 4.Ai for low end oomph. Will do direct comparison tomorrow. Bass is tight and precise, "Take The Power Back" by Rage Against The Machine has punch and bite, but the 3.Ai and 8.A puts more weight behind it. The voice of Zach De La Rocha on the Tzar can best be described as an aquired taste.

Current chain: Asus Xonar DS  -> Rendition 1 -> Tzar 350. No problem using an inferior source, I was sort of expecting a giant hiss-fest but the Rendition seems to spare me from that. Will give them a spin on my O2 amp in a moment etysmile.gif

I have a friend who has both the ER4 P & S versions, when I get my Tzar 350's I'll be borrowing them to do comparison.

I have a date with a hot pair of ER4P this saturday... Sadly, they'll bring their owner as chaperone.

When you say about there bass compared to the 4.Ai, they must not have as much quantity or presence as the 4.Ai have a slight bass boost, right?

Slightly less quantity I think, but I don't have the 4.Ai with me right now to compare. They do go deep though, and the bass is punchy and dry.
