Budget Bedroom Setup

Hey guys, first post here but have been lurking for quite sometime. So much great info here; it's been a great help so far.

I'm looking to get back into physical media. Had considered vinyl, but I think CDs are probably a lot practical for me (especially considering my budget). So I'm looking for a solid, affordable CDP to use with headphones...under $200.

I've found a good looking deal on a Marantz CD5001, which I've heard mostly good things about. Supposed to have a decent headphone amp built in, which would be nice. Any thoughts/opinions regarding this player?

At this price point, would I be better off looking for a cheap DVD player and external headphone amp? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Just FYI, right now I have a pair of ATH-M30's, but I will be upgrading those soon as well (probably AKG K240 or ATH-M50s...haven't decided).

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to Head-Fi, sorry about your wallet! I think you'll be hard pressed to find something better for $200 that is a CDP and headphone amp. That can also make a fine addition to bigger system in the future, instead of just throwing it away. In my personal opinion, I would steer away from a CD player and get a Logitech Squeezebox Touch and stream music wirelessly to a DAC+Headphone amp box.Such as the Yulong U100 for $229. You can even forego the Logitech and use a laptop if you have one.

Thanks, Brunk. The Logitech thing looks neat, but I'm really looking to get back into a physical medium again. I've been into digital formats for quite a while now but I'm starting to miss the aesthetic experience that CDs provided. I have an iPod, smartphone, tablet, etc that I could (and currently do) use if I want to listen to my digital music on the go, but I don't really want to use any of those for my bedroom rig.

So the Marantz is probably a good option? Anyone know anything about the TEAC CD-P650?

Any additional input would be great. Thanks again.
