Getting headphones for cousin, could use some recommendations

Hi, need headphones recommendations for my cousin.

-Willing to spend around $200 range.

-Closed.

-Good amount of bass, but not over the top.

-Something not heavy.

-Usually listens to rap/hip hop and movies.

You can recommend more than one, I can narrow it down from there myself.

I have dt770 pro which he likes the feel of, but he wants something different so we can switch time to time. I hope that helps.

Thanks in advance

Audio-Technica ATH-ESW9 and Bose AE2 are both good. AE2 has better 'staging, the ESW9 are "higher-fi" (but isolate less). The Ultrasone closed headphones seem to be popular too (I haven't tried them myself; their open cans are good though - HFI-2400 would be perfect for what you want, except they're open redface.gif).

if your interested in going down the ultrasone route, you could go for the HFI-780. Closed, it has enough bass for me, but wouldn't satisfy a basshead. also the cable is 1.2m which makes it great for portability. They are a really "fun" headphones..

If you can swing a D2000, get it!

For those purposes, it fits the requirements exceptionally well. For that criteria list, the D2000 is better than my HE-500. Good sub-bass slam for rap, liked it more than even the Pro 900 - voicing suits it quite nicely on D2000. For movies, the soundstage is pretty big for closed and I find it quite natural. Also, it's quite comfortable - easy on the clamping force.

If you can't get a D2000, check out some Ultrasone models on Amazon.com, they have great prices there for Ultrasones. D2000 new is quite expensive now though, although here on the sale forums, you should be able to find a good price.

HP700 or Uptowns should also be looked into as well. Again, like Zoom said, if you can find a D2000, get them! Hifi Centre here once had them for around 250 (only demo units left).
