Any suggestions that would go great with my AKG Q701, and Hifiman He-400

Jds Standalone ODAC $150

Schiit Bifrost $350($450 with usb)

Both have great reviews

I would go with either of those, all depends on what you want to spend.

Yulong D100 (slightly above budget) - my vote for one of the best dacs under $500.

Also quite good is the Gamma2

Yeah, the D100 is a real killer in its price range

Still amazed after 6 months

Maverick audio tubemagic D2 or Maverick audio tubemagic D1 (less detail but also headphone amp)

I will be watching this thread as I have almost the exact same question. Looking to either get a dac and an amp, or a combo, for around $500 total. I have pretty much narrowed it down dac-wise to the Bifrost, the Cambridge Audio DAC100, and now the Emotiva XDA-2 (thanks for the suggestion Preproman). For a bit more money I can get the Cambridge Audio unit with a built in amp, I think they call it the Plus with the amp. The others I am going to have to buy a separate amp for. So far I am kind of leaning toward the Cambridge Audio unit but I'll keep an eye on here and see what people think.

Never anything Maverick.  I had the D1 and it was the biggest piece of unmitigated crap I've ever purchased.

On the other hand, the Musical Fidelity V-DAC II is an excellent DAC for the price.  I performs above its price point, IMHO.
