What should I know? What sources should I look into? I've got my desktop with FLACs and other lossless files, I've got an older iPod classic that I could put rockbox on and pick up an LOD cable for. These are a used pair, should I ask about use and burn-in?

 

I also want to know things that aren't so technical. What is the best way to enjoy your headphones? What's your favorite thing to listen to in a new pair of headphones?

 

Thanks a lot for helping me along the way, Head-Fi. You were with me from start to finish. I learned and researched here and finally decided to buy here. I'm excited to be part of the community.

So... you already bought everything, correct?
Burn-in doesn't really matter all that much, even on new pairs of headphones so don't worry about it.

I've found that the best way to enjoy your headphones (being sent through your highest fidelity chain) is simply by not doing anything else while listening. Lay down and close your eyes and let the music envelop you.

I would say that you should listen to whatever you want first, it doesn't really matter all that much. Just be happy with your new purchase on your road down high fidelity. Good luck in rediscovering your music library :)

Ah, gotcha. Like I said previously, just enjoy your new purchase! Play all your FLAC files through your HD650s and enjoy rediscovering music. Don't get caught up in what the next best thing is, just appreciate what you've got and enjoy the music smily_headphones1.gif

The best way to enjoy your headphones is the same way you enjoy music. Play some tunes you like, and immerse in them. The best thing to listen to is your favourite music.

It's kinda bizarre to me that you with with the Yulong A800 instead of something like the O2.

 

But, what everyone else said, enjoy the music man.

Dang Chris, don't make the guy/girl 2nd guess their purchase. I hate that feeling...buyer's remorse. Just like when my gf got the iPhone5, I wasn't like, "Nice phone but you know Android is better and more open right?" Enjoy your new gear OP and remember it's all about the music.

congrats on the new gear elock37! i was actually vying for the HD650's and ODAC that you purchased, but you won out smile.gif.  Isaiah (imackler) is a great seller, picked up my O2 from him last month.  looking forward to your impressions on this combo. sounds like it's fantastic.

It's just odd to me to pair up something from the objective line (the odac) with something from a brand that the objective line designer doesn't really suggest. (He directly expressed a dislike with all things Yulong in the past)

Not to say I have any experience with the Yulong A800. Or any direct experience with Yulong, at all.

That's fine. I decided to go with the A800 because the seller recommended it highly and it was cheap because it was bundled with the cans. If I don't like it, I'll put it up on the trade forums, chalk it up to experience, and buy another.
