Using the original firmware if you then try to sync more than 30GBs won't iTunes stop the transfer when it gets to 31GB because the firmware in the player says I only have a 30GB drive or are Apple devices free of these kind of restrictions ?

I don't know about sync, but I have replaced a 30GB HDD with a 128GB CF. Both Apple original firmware and Rockbox recognize it as 120GB capacity. I was able to load it with the 120GB's using Rockbox.

Yea, I never had any issues. iTunes and the iPod both recognized the full 128GB in the iPod. I would have to say you won't run into issues with sync. biggrin.gif

Looks like I'll be getting another 5.5G iPod and doing the 128gb cf mod. Thanks for resurrecting the thread. :)

Thanks! Yeah I love the mod. Hated the fact that it had a mechanical hard drive.

Now my list of mods for my 5.5G is an iVue clear front cover, and the iMod. Going to have to shell out the cash for the iMod frown.gif. I have no soldering skills tongue.gif I also plan to install Rockbox and play with that. Make it a complete and total different animal then a stock iPod.

Now if only I could find a good case for it. The case I currently have is a Speck Armorskin. I love it. Clear, and great protection. Problem is mine looks dirty. I can't find one anywhere. Emailed Speck to see if maybe they had one laying around. No dice. frown.gif But at least I have a Zagg invisible shield on the iPod. Tough stuff. Had the iPod for 6 years and it's still in mint condition. Just wanted a new case to go along with all the mods. Give it a very new clean look. Should be an awesome iPod once I'm done with it. Too bad the Speck case was discontinued years ago.

I plan to pair it with a Fiio E17 and the Beyerdynamic DT 880 PRO 250ohm cans. Hopefully it sounds awesome. biggrin.gif

Maybe if I hadn't bought that laptop....lol.

I couldn't pass up the chance to pick up a laptop with Windows 7 on it though, since all the new ones come with Windows 8.
