The Under 18 Discussion Thread

Thread Starter

This thread is for all the young Head-Fi'ers (<18)

This is just a general discussion thread for us youngins on Head-Fi to talk recommendations, preferences, and how you deal with our Beats-brainwashed peers. Whether you want to discuss preferences, or you just need reassurance that there are other young audio-savvy people on Head-Fi, all headphone-related posts are welcome!

Saw a HD25 in highschool yesterday. First decent sighting here. I am, like many others here, known as the headphone guy at school.

Hey, just noticed you own the Sennheiser HD 600's as well. How are you liking them?

I freaking love them!
The timbre of the HD600s is above everything I've ever heard, and the frequency response is almost perfectly balanced. There isnt a lot of sub bass, but the mid bass is still quite satisfying.
The mids are slightly forward and very smooth. Vocals, and the whole "center channel" are very intimate compared to other things I've heard.
The treble is laid back. While the HD600s don't do micro detail well (I'd say most of my ~$150 iems exceed it in detail retrieval) it is also very non-offensive and relaxed. Pretty much no way to get fatigued by the treble on these. Though there is a slight peak in the treble which gives drums a nice impact, but without making T's and S's sound harsh in poor recordings.
If you want something that sounds good with pretty much every genre of music, the HD600s are it. And if you're going to buy them new, you can buy them from razordogdeals for $300.

Nice, what DAC and amp are you running them with? I've only been using a Fiio E7 + E9 to run mine.

An iPod classic and Objective 2. I'll soon be getting a Cirrus Logic DAC as well to use when I don't feel like using the iPod, but I've liked both quite a bit so far. The O2 doesn't even break a sweat powering the O2, I usually listen to it at around 8 o'clock to 9 o'clock on low gain.

One question to mechgamer123, How do you afford it?

btw i am 17, just got my first "good" pair of headphones (Koss KSC75).

How many of you guys got Skullcandies and thought they were amazing?  I for one did!  Then they broke about a month later (not surprising).
