Ocharaku Flat-4 KAEDE (Maple) - Page 49

Oh well, what the...

Some serious real music now rendered masterfully by the Kaedes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vODfYjbLxY (the EX1000s did a superb job on this one, but the Kaedes take it further still — absolutely superb rendering of this track [this youtube version is okay-ish, but…])

(TF10 tips may be too; I will find out in about 10 days.)

Bass quality indeed. String bass (double bass, whatever you want to call it) is something special on the KAEDE.

Where can you get them with reasonable shipping? UE is out of there mind expecting me to pay $14.00 shipping (plus $10.00 for the tips) for tips lol.

The TF10s were my first BA IEMs. I still have them but they sit in a drawer. Not that they are not good - they are - but I have many other more interesting choices now.

...So I already have the tips.

I've just dropped in a mail to Dimitri to ask him. I have a feeling it's a mistake on the web page (or maybe he's having some kinda special I'm not aware of). Maple/Kaede should be the same.

Ah...turns out they're doing some kinda special. I don't know the details. You'll need to mail them on what it's all about. [OT]@EveTan, yeah I "upgraded" my home speaker amp from the Accuphase E-407 to the McIntosh MC275LE MkVI: http://www.head-fi.org/t/545243/show-us-your-mcintosh-pictures/60#post_9595059[/OT]

To my ears the (loosely sealed) FX700 top them in bass definition / detail, as do the EX1000, and even my $50 Novodio IHX (though the latter have way too much quantity).

James, it is not the warm full bass that most IEMs render but rather a lean textured bass that reveals surprising amounts of low frequency detail.

I cannot comment on the SUI as I have not heard it.

I really enjoyed the Sui and it makes me wonder if James pair is defective ;). I didn't hear them that way at all. Then again I think the true power of these IEMs comes from how damn well they scale up on better sources. I agree with Muppetface that the price premium of the Kaede really isn't justified in terms of sound quality nor build. But it's still nice and an improvement in certain aspects. The Sui was easier to listen to overall though and at higher volumes. I think it was a funner IEM overall.

Interesting — wish I'd auditioned the FX700s when I had a chance to do so two years ago (but stupidly declined the offer), so I could give you my take on those in relation to the Kaedes (from memory, of course).

Your comments, though, re: the SUI's bass make me wonder, too, just how different these two F4 models really are, or if ther might be fit-related issue here perhaps. Please try this track with your JVCs and tell me what you hear; on the Kaedes the bass is very, very tight AND textured, perfectly delineated notes. The sound of the drums is absolutely brilliant, and even the violin here has excellent timbre. Once again, soundstage and layering are simply terrific (BTW, no treble harshness at all): http://grooveshark.com/#!/s/The+Wild+The+Beautiful+And+The+Damned/1Va72r?src=5  or the youtube version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=savx6aY0nEw

To say that these are better than what I was hoping for when I ordered will be my new high water mark for understatements. (And I had not heard them first either; for most of us, that is impossible.) I am about 25 hours in and they are sweet now. Music is rediscovered on these IEMs. The soundstage is da bomb. Today it was Barenaked Ladies, Waterboys and B52s, each an old favourite and now a new experience.

Regarding the bolded text above, although in my case I wouldn't put it quite that way...

I have to be completely honest and say that I'd use the exact same words now. The Kaede, though not perfect, is really an exceptional phone. So, yes, "to say that these are better than what I was hoping for when I ordered will be my new high water mark for understatements", too, and though a few eyebrows may be raised, I'd certainly take the Kaedes over the almighty TG334s — but hey, I love the 160Xs & The King of Incoherence, so I guess that explains it, then.

I knew that you would come around.  biggrin.gif

Well I didn't but I am not surprised either. There are many adjectives that one can use to describe the KAEDE but the one that I have settled on is "compelling". This IEM walks into one's life and demands attention.

How much time do you have on your pair now? For some reason they've gotten noticeably more harsh on recordings lately and not in a good way :(. I'm running them in with some pink noise hoping the sound changes. If not I may be putting them up for sale... Maybe the Sui is more of my cup of tea since it is more forgiving on recordings... rolleyes.gif
