I've only built them on perf board.

I will say that since it is more difficult to actually fit a through hole pot and socket on perf board, it is much, much easier to get the professional boards to fit into a tin with two batteries. Of all the CMoys I've built, I've only ever managed to get it to fit with two batteries once. That isn't to say it's impossible, it's just more difficult.
