I can't even imagine what they could do at the $1,500 price point based on the Concero findings. It sure be exciting to see.

My thoughts exactly!! Here's (irrationally) hoping for a Hilo-like feature set (ADC, DAC, headphone amp, etc) with Invicta SQ for under $1500!! (That sounds like a reasonable request, right? tongue.gif)

I'm trying to manage my expectations.  I'm hoping for the Invicta headphone amp section in a Concero-size box.

New DAC unit from Resonessence Labs will use two ESS 9018 (one for each channel), price is around Canadian $4999. The design will be toward more hi-end with better sound than Invicta.

Where did this info come from? Also, they are announcing more than one thing next week so even if true, there is still room for something else.

Soundwise Concero is not in the same league as Hilo, of course. It's like having dust and a lot of some finger prints on your camera lens...

Finally, a more balanced viewpoint. This is the first non gushing post on the Concero.

Cause those who gushed were lying, I suppose. rolleyes.gif

I don't see how that viewpoint is any different than other posts. I haven't read anything that really said the Concero was better than a pwd2, hilo, etc level dac but more that it was better than expected and at a attractive price for the sq it provides.

If that is your opinion, I guess you are entitled to.

With all due respect, that's just silly.

There is a 4x price difference between the Concero and the Hilo, and their feature sets couldn't be less comparable.

The Concero is a remarkable engineering accomplishment that, IMO, blows away anything close to its price point that I've heard. I don't think anyone has said anything that can fairly be read as saying that it can run with the big dogs (the closest you can find to a statement like that is me saying I didn't miss my QB-9, and if you consider that "gushing" I'd say that we have vastly different understandings of what "gushing" means).

I own both a Hilo and a Concero. I prefer the Hilo to my former Concero/BHA-1 combo with HD 800s. But i'm certainly not going to rule out the possibility that with a different amp and headphones, the Concero could deliver performance so close to the Hilo that there would be no clear winner.

Have you spent any time with either unit, or are you just pontificating.
