That Rega DAC is either warm/musical or slow/muffled depending on your point of view.... John Atkinson of Stereophile used the term "ponderous" and I find it apt. Personally I find it fun for a quick listen but not enjoyable long term.

I had a listen to it on a friends system with the Brio-R which is a livelier sounding amp and not the most revealing piece of equipment I've heard so could have well masked its weaknesses, but together they are an entertaining combo. I heard the newer DAC-R is an improvement, but again shows the importance of system synergy. The Concero also sounded great in the system, definitely more detailed, but it was more analytical and to my preference, but my friend picked the Rega for its bassier signature and musicality. Comparisons with Concero is always tough due to the care that's needed with level matching.

Yeah, it sounds very good with my taboo.  It's just unfortunate that my bakoon gives it an edge.  I know that's just a property of sabre and it's a slight edge but the edge is there.  It's a similar edge I used to get with particular tubes with my old havana dac and the bakoon.  Personally I feel that it's a dac that goes really, really well with speakers and I think it brings the best out of my speakers compared to the he-500.  I get my most enjoyment there from this dac Unfortunately I didn't not expect to miss my havana as much as I do when I sold it off, even with its diminished detail vs the concero(with the most analytical tube I had tried, it was nearly as detailed).  I'm likely going to sell my concero eventually.

Not sure if you are using the headphone out with the HP but I'm sure they have a nice amplifier that balances the edge out.  At least the edge is managable and if you do pair it well it is a rewarding product with loads of detail.  It just happens to that I prefer a touch of warmth, it sounds more natural to my ears.  When I traded for the concero I didn't know that I preferred a warmer signature as much as I do.  I don't dislike it as a DAC, but it would be nice to have something that works well with all of my gear instead of just some.

Glad to see you are getting full enjoyment though :)

As I'm using the Concero HP, I can't really comment on it as a DAC exclusively. If you want a more natural DAC, the Metrum Octave is a great option as well.

hey guys, new Concero HP owner here. Question, how can I use this model as a usb to coax converter? I'm reading up on the thread, but I'm still about a year behind on it...

Looks like you need the Apple IR remote.. pressing up will change it to bridge mode and switch off the HP output to SPDIF. Check out the Concero Manual.. gives you the exact information.

oh. ok, I see. I was a bit confused since I've been reading several different entries.

I also read this on the Resonessence Labs website but I can't find any such Configuration Tool anywhere:

Quote:
USB to S/PDIF Bridge
Connect to a USB Host as described in USB DAC mode (above).
Please note that the CONCERO HP can be configured to output S/PDIF
or accept S/PDIF as an input by a configuration tool on the PC or MAC.

(This feature is provided so that the CONCERO HP does not need to use
any remote control device.)

Also, since I don't have an Apple Remote, do you guys know if I can use an Android Apple remote app? I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 with the IR blaster...

I think just the Apple remote works. Not an issue for me...I'm an Apple guy...iMac, Apple TV, iPad (x2), iPhone 6, iPod Classic, etc...

My first "good" home computer was the IIc...I know...I'm old. Good time to pick up an Apple TV? :p

Page 12 on the guide... Have a look :)

Not sure if your android one will work.. i have only used it with the Apple remote. Works perfectly.

Rumors indicating a newer Apple TV model some time in 2015?
Mine is current model and works well for various on demand viewing and streaming audio.

I'm sure there could be...but the differences in models are fairly minimal with the Apple TV.

Ah, ok guys, thanks. I'm not an apple guy, so don't know much about that. So, does the Apple remote control the Concero itself or the software on the pc? (sorry if that's a dumb question, but like I said, don't know nuthin' bout Apple)

It can do both... you can use it to pause, play and skip songs in JRiver etc. It just doesnt control the volume, i use the JRiver gizmo app for that reason. You basically need the remote to change filters on the Concero/Concero HD, also to use it as a usb/spdif bridge.
