Resonessence Labs Concero discussion/review thead

Wow. Yes it works! Great tip. Now I don't suppose there's any drop in sound quality for Audirvana+ when switching to itune integration mode.

Great!

I am doubtful, as far as I know it only uses the user interface. I still have a lot of hires files and source material in FLAC format. Still debating whether its just easier upgrading to Audirvana+ v2 or converting the FLAC files to ALAC!

I just read the A+ manual (forgot I had one) and I'm afraid they did mention that SQ will be affected with iTunes running along side A+. So i guess we should stay clear of iTunes.

On the topic of using remote, I accidentally found out that I could use my mobile to control Spotify that's playing on my Mac. Shoot me but I actually find Spotify streaming at extreme quality almost as good as some 16 bit lossless files in terms of soundstage separation etc. Although I must admit the Concero has a big part to do with that.

Seems as if this thread has died a little... I have had my Concero for about a year and a half now. Highly doubt i will ever get rid of this thing, so much magic in such a little box. :D Looking at purchasing the HP to use as my main Phone source, its gone up quite a bit since the Aussie dollar has dropped. :/

Yes, I still use it all the time as well. Way better sounding than the size would suggest.

I wonder how does Concero compare to a little more expensive DACs, like Wyred4sound DAC-2, Lavry DA11, NuForce DAC9 or Schiit Gungnir.

I have very limited experience with DACs. I haven't heard many. I haven't even heard any of the above-mentioned (I only found out that these are the ones with good reputation and quite reasonably priced).

I would like to pick the appropriate DAC for my LCD-2 setup. Should it be Concero or should I choose one of the more expensive DACs? How big increase in overall sound quality can I get from them over Concero?

(The DAC is going to be an upgrade from my Schiit Bifrost; I am also going to upgrade my amp - from Lyr to Bryston BHA-1)

I've heard some good ESS9018 implementations and the Concero falls slightly short in that regard when it comes to ultimate detail retrieval though more detailed than some Wolfson DACs I've listened to (Rega DAC, Emotiva XDA-2, Rotel RCD-12). Still a cracker at the price and easily belongs in the class of the Audiolab M-DAC, Rega DAC, Schiit Bifrost and PS Audio NuWave. I haven't heard the Bifrost (might soon) but I still like the Concero more than those DACs I have listed and have listening experience with. I have also owned mine for around 1,5 years now and I'll probably never sell it.

Its a well balanced DAC from top to bottom, good sound staging and its has plenty of versatility built into it. The only thing I could wish for was slightly more bass extension and bit more body to instruments and the 1.2Vrms makes DAC level matched comparisons tricky. Lots of mainstream DACs have some issues in the treble and this one handily walks around that. It's also a terrific USB->SPDIF converter just slightly behind the AP2 I have as well..

concero uses ess9016 not the flagship 9018

I'm loving my HP so much I decided my next upgrade has to be the Invicta. I know it costs nearly 6 times more but I can't imagine moving to another 'house' sound. These guys really nail it for me. Anyone compared the HP to Invicta? Really keen to know how much improvement in SQ I can expect.

I'm really curious about the Concero-Invicta comparison myself. Preferably with an external amp for both, to avoid influencing the comparison with the Invicta's amplifier circuit.

Project86 shared his view on my post on the Invicta thread. Maybe our questions belong there so we don't poison others with the idea of upgrading so soon. Heh.

I hope Resonessence would release a DAC in the 1400$ range something between Concero HD and Invicta Mirus.
Not a necessity but would be interesting and maybe in the future since i'm still satisfied with my concero.

Anyways i've asked Mark from Resonessence about the software update for Concero and he said they are working for a release at the end of this month.

Good to hear that. I've been waiting for the upgrade. Though I wonder what it will cover.
