I'll make sure to post some impressions tomorrow when the package is due to arrive. I'm very familiar with the Havana's sound as I've had it for about a year and a half now. I think it's a fine DAC especially if you have a few tubes on hand. I probably would not have liked it if I didn't buy mine used with multiple tubes already available.  I'm curious to see how much the concero will differ as well. So I will post soon~

I was just wondering if anyone has tried the Concero HP with the Alpha Dogs yet?  I just ordered a pair of Alpha Dogs last week and I already have the HP as part of my portable laptop rig since I work out of town for 2 weeks at a time.  I still find my MDR-7520's pair the best with the HP, even better than on my home setup.

My HE-500's don't seem to have the same dynamics with the HP as my M-DAC/BHA-1 combo or M-DAC/Lyr combo.

Looking forward to your impressions with the Alpha Dogs after they arrive.

Sure.  I'll post my impressions when I get them.. That probably won't be for another 6 weeks or so though, since there is a 6 week wait, plus shipping to Canada (going through customs).

Initial Impressions vs Havana (Click to show)

The concero hd does everything I want it to do. It's obvious to me that this is a step up. The concero isn't really an obvious DAC, but it does render the music wonderfully and accurately. All listening through HE-500 and HDA-5210MK3.

It was obvious to me that my DAC(the havana) was causing a bottleneck in my system. I just did not know how severe. The Havana paired with any of the tubes I had available provided warmth, some more than others. With any tube in the Havana, the mids are slightly forward compared to the concero. The concero sounds less congested and more accurate with timbre, tone, weight, and decay. It's a nice piece of equipment indeed. Even so, I could see plenty happy with the Havana over the concero in any system.

Nils Frahm - Mi

Not a super high resolution song but there are lots of details to be picked up with Nils' intimate recording style. Timbre and decay are as good as I've heard them in my system (vs my old Havana with any tube). The background somehow seems blacker, or like there's more space between notes, I think this also has to do with things decaying properly. A curious effect to be sure.

Daft Punk - Digital Love (vinyl master)

There's a section of this song that I always use for reference The keyboard solo has a lot of dynamicsm as well as texture and the notes don't relay the full emotion in a subpar system. The vinyl master being one of the best masters I've heard makes this a solid reference album.

Sounds very clean vs the havana I've noticed again, but there's a certain warmth missing from the havana. This is not a necessarily good or bad thing but it's a notable difference.

Jon Hopkins - Open Eye Signal

Immediately sounds very good with this track. Better than I've heard it to date. There are complexities in the bass that all come through perfectly as they never did in the Havana.

Jared Smith - Clouds Up Above

The field recordings sound great. Nothing is lost. There are a lot of subtlties in this track that add depth to the song and I guess there's only one word and that's the concero sounds very exact.

Seems like a nice compact setup. the concero is so small you could leave it dangling behind a desk if you really wanted haha. Don't know about the DAC in the WA7, but the concero is very, good for the money imo.

i also have IFI iUSB and Gemini cable , i made a review about the iUSB, for me it was the best thing ever, and yes not everyone will get same result form it, depend on your PSU and if you are on a PC or a laptop, cause not each PC got the same power quality, some of us got it super dirty like mine (corsair cough cough..) and some got it cleaner and thats why you see different results with iUSB owners.

hi folks

my actual setup is composed by audeze lcd2+graham slee ultralinear de+hrt II plus+aqvox power supply

I would like to upgrade the dac, I need only usb input

I was wondering if the concero is a good match with my setup, or everything will go too much in the dark side

i m not even sure if starting with a balanced setup for the audeze worst the money.. i m pretty satisfied of the graham

in this case another contender is the psaudio nuwave

i have an audiolab mdac on demo and sound much better than the hrt, but i read that the usb input is not so good..

no dsd-mostly flac jazz free jazz avant-garde electronic techno are my favourite genres

might i  have an advise?
balanced: mdac/psaudio nuwave/yulong new one/matrix x sabre/aqvox

unbalanced: concero/concero hd /chord qute hd

???

thank you very much

ciao

Dani

A lot of people get hit with that tax from Canada. It seems more likely for some reason, as compared to importing from Asia. I get stuff in all the time and the tax thing seems almost random to me. Sometimes you get charged, sometimes you don't.

I don't know the WA7 for direct comparison but I can confidently say the Concero is an excellent DAC. I've got way more expensive stuff around here, yet the Concero never disappoints. You'll love it.

Did you get or already have an Apple remote? You will need it to engage the 2 upsampling filters. Otherwise the Concero will operate in bit-perfect mode only, which is still very good.

will do so later, i assume i will give it a time to get used to the sound , cause i won't feel the filters on 1st week maybe.
