Resonessence Labs Concero discussion/review thead - Page 82

Color me confused as to why someone would be seriously considering using a product intended to be a portable solution with one of, if not the least portable headphones. But then again I wouldn't even consider taking a 1500 dollar headphone out of my listening room let alone out into the real world.

I'm primarily interested in it as a DAC, with a run to an external amp.  That's one of the stated uses on Resonessence Labs' site and it would certainly solve any issues with the 800s (which I don't own :( ).

Thanks!

It has similar characteristics to the Concero family but sounds a little strained through my HD800's compared to the others. Instrument separation isn't as good. A bit more closed-in, a bit less natural. Even so... don't get me wrong... it sounds truly great for such a diminutive little gizmo. I'd easily take it over a Bifrost. If you amped it separately perhaps that might put it on more equal footing.

Thanks!  I would actually be leery of driving HD650s with something like the Herus, let alone HD800s.  But it's good you tried it out because given Resonessence's target customer, I bet compatibility with the HD800s is one of the first questions they get asked.

For me, it's actually a disappointment that it's not a pure DAC.  I can't help but think about noise / crosstalk seeping in from the amp section with something so teeny tiny.  And of course, my feelings are not at all influenced by the fact that I'm looking for a DAC rather than a DAP. :)

Not everyone thinks bigger is better.  And not everyone has a listening room or even room on their desk for multiple large pieces.  I am one of those people, and I have no intention of using my HD800s portably.  I am looking for the best quality sound from the smallest footprint.  I can compromise on either metric to a certain degree if the other is outstanding.

I listened to the HD800 straight from the Invicta and it was a pretty horrible pairing.

Very detailed, but thin, unnatural almost digital sounding with no real power to the sound at all. Just sucked the fun out of music and the typical thing when the HD800 is matched with the wrong gear.

The HD800 is very picky about amps and it was obvious to me that the Invicta didn't deliver what the HD800 need to be a pleasurable listening experience.

How do the Concero HP compare?

FYI, I am selling my Concero, plus remote and USB plug. I have no feedback yet, but am trustworthy.. Only willing to sell in the US.

I have a Herus on order.  Planning to use it primarily with UERMs, but at some point I will try it with HD 800 (and Fostex TH 600, which I would be more likely to take on the road than the 800), and post impressions either here or on the Herus thread.

Recently purchased a concero, I have a problem with the remote. When I press menu

it does not switch. Any ideas?  The remote works with other functions.

Thanks

You can only switch the filters if 1) you are playing a music file and 2) the music file is 44kS/s or 48kS/s.

Not at all antagonistic, you come to a forum to receive help for a basic matter that could have been handled by picking up the user manual.
