Impoving sound quality on the iPod Nano 4G?

Hey Head-Fi,

 

I'm fairly new to the audio world as far as high-end audio and I've been running a fairly low-end setup for a while now. My current portable "setup" (if I can call it that) is just my iPod Nano 4G and some fairly cheap IEMs (I've ordered the Kanen KM92s which are apparently decent for their price). I recently bought some DT770s for home use which will soon be accompanied by a FiiO E10. For now, though, I've got to stick with what I've got when I'm out in public as I'd rather not take my DT770s out with me.

 

I've seen that the Nano 4G can't be rockboxed because the firmware is encrypted(?) Correct me if I'm wrong. But is there anything I can do to make my Nano 4G sound better at all? Or is there really no point?

Well, you can install rockbox and experience some changes, most of those changes revolve around EQ but some do swear it changes the sound signature, and if they say so why not try it? It's free easy to install using the rocjbox installer and there's nothing to lose. If that fails I suggest you look into a Sansa Clip+ to experience better SQ Cheap effective player.

I first came from a ipod nano and the Clip+ was an awesome, upgrade even look at the Clip Zip if you want album art and a colour screen, Apparently they sound the same, they both support rockbox and are highly rated by some on these forums as the best bang for your money in a portable DAP.

As for you IEMs I highly suggest you take a look at this thread and jump on the best kept secret.

if you can get a Clip+ or Zip and those IEM's (which are only $20) you will be taking a huge leap foward for a small price.

As I said in my original post, the iPod Nano 4G cannot be rock boxed wehich is where my issue lay. However thank you for that link, I'll check those out! :)
