Yes, but there's strong indication that the Jades will eventually be back. It's my understanding HFM really wants to get it right this time around, so there's no hurry.

Since you like collecting vintage can's, their are vintage Stax stats on ebay that pop up from time to time, various SR-Lambda  models pop up now and then with the required transformer adapter for less than $450 most of the times and their sound? Sounds better than a good large 80% of mainstream and some flagship gear (assuming you're not a basshead). Their was a seller from Japan that use sell the entry level SRS-2170 kit for around $450 - 550 shipped worldwide, not sure if his still around though.

 

There are other alternatives other than just Stax, vintage Micro Seiki stat's (which Stax oem'd some of their stuff to) and used ESP950's go for $500 avg.

As long as they sound like the originals, or perhaps even closer to HE90s they would be the only headphone that would bring me back to 'stat land. I would echo a previous signer by requesting a Hifiman amp be built as well. More stat amp selection can't be bad, and one from Hifiman would likely be priced around $1-2k which is where Stax has no competition whatsoever.

I did make such a stipulation. However, I really hope the combo amp/'phone cost no more than $2000.

 

The final cost breakdown is up to HifiMan, whether that means a $1000 amplifier and a $1000 Jade 2.0, or $1500 jade and $500 amp, etc.

Both seem unlikely especially a $500 amp, unless supplying some adapter instead, otherwise we can only speculate.

$1000 headphone seems possible, but unlikely. $1000 amp is probably even more unlikely. I'd expect both of these to be around $1500 with the amp maybe reaching to $2000.
