High-End Headphones for Everything Movies/Games/Music - Page 2

I've never heard of the ATH-T500. Why not get the Creative Aurana Live! or CAL!?

Starting slow is best but you do end up spending more in the long run, as you'll want to upgrade. Probably best to get a good set of cans that seem to fit your preferences, then save up for a good amp like the JDS Labs O2

Creative Aurana Live! are quite cheap here in Czech Republic, only 55$ too. These are any special ?

I would rly need to get somewhere where I could try all amps with all headphones and get idea what are we talking about biggrin.gif Because now I have no idea to what am I gonna invest into smily_headphones1.gif

Just got reply on czech forum which says basicaly :
Get AKG K701 or HD650 if u want more bass + Asus Essence ST(X) as a PC Sound Card which has also integrated amp and u will be fine.

Guess I'll spend whole weekend educating myself about headphones and all the stuff around to be able make some decent decision.

I'm still worried the K701 won't satisfy your bass needs, and it's picky with amps. HD650 should be better. Get the cans, then think about the amp, amp suggestion is the JDS Labs O2 with a Stoner Acoustics UD100 DAC.

+1

For $55, that seems like a great deal since those are $100 phones to the rest of us. That would leave you over $100 for improving the sound coming from your computer, if you want. Get a DAC or a new sound card.

So, I decided I'll give AKG's try + CAL's because everyone says they are great and I need also something to the gym and to compare sound, as far as I understand those 2 should be completely different headphones. Also I can get both for cheap so if I won't like them I am sure I can sell them.

And as a next buy after some recommendations I'll try out ASUS Xonar Essence STX sound card which has already built in amp.

Thank you all for helping me to decide smily_headphones1.gif

So, just got CAL's for 46$ with shipping included. They are awesome for the price ! Definitely like base on them. Only "problem" is they are not loud enough for me (when connected to pc).

Anyway once again thanks for tip guys.

Got FiiO E11 for cheap (48$) (on the way) + I'am thinking about Asus Xonar D2X (have good offer on this one) .

Also 2 hours ago I got my hands on already perfectly burned in AKG's K701 and oh my, can't understand why some ppl hate these. I'am listening to them thru onboard audio on Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z + music in FLAC and I already love them, there is so much detail in .. well in every song ... it's not just singers voice+noise. Someone stated that these do not rock, I don't think so. While I'am writing, I'am listening to Rammstein - Du Reichst So Gut and it sounds great, definitely can't say bass sux on these. But music like Simon and Garfunkel - Sound of Silence it's really new dimension for me.

Congratulations!  They are lovable! They do get more than their share of flack from Head-Fi and it really is a love/hate relationship on these boards. They are a fairly inexpensive flagship so many get them. They were the reason I joined Head-Fi, I found out about Head-fi while researching the k701s. At the time they were close to $399.00. There was a time when they were everywhere at Head-Fi meets, then just like an old girl friend quickly forgotten. The last two meets I went to in 2009 failed to even have a pair present.

For the money they are really fantastic and out-shine many on speed and head-sage. I'm glad you found an amp that you like with them. I go back to mine every so often. They are always amazing, especially with vocals. They seem really source and amp dependent for me though. I always wonder as folks here cycle through equipment routines ( with a speedy buy and sell) just how many would have re-fallen in love with the K701s. There are stories of some members selling and buying them 3 times over. lol

Just keep em forever. The more you live with em the more you can understand them both in the positive and negative. They are super cool for movies. My dream is still to match em up with an external sub-woofer for movies! Just run the sub in the side of the room with no other monitors.

Here is a pair for over $600.00 USD

Thanks for sharing your experience. It's love relationship for me biggrin.gif Have them 3 days and already spend about 25 hours with them smily_headphones1.gif

Today I got idea of adding my RX-ED707 between my PC and K701s but it didn't go as well as I expected frown.gif I can definitely get louder music ... "big but" music gets screwed , It's not clear at all anymore "lots of disruption gets there" if I can explain it with my english. It just became completely unlistenable.

(FiiO E11 should arrive on monday/tuesday so I hope it won't be same story)
