AKG "K267 TIËSTO" - Discussion, Impressions & Review Thread - Page 60

It sounds like you are just used to the treble of the dj1. They have a lot more quantity and thus seem clearer and crisper.

You have a point...but honestly I have been going back and fourth between the two this past week. The soundstage and seperation on the DJ1 is just so much better. If I could find replacement ear pads for the DJ1's I think the K267's would just be collecting dust. The only thing that I really like about them right now ishiw comfortable they are...

I should of just got a pair of the DJ1 Pros or HDJ-2000

Looks like it.  BTW, did anyone else notice that the 580 jumped from $120 to $189?  On the plus side, the 780 is down to $150.

Well guys im confused about the K167.

Some people say that the bass is incredible tight and deep

where other users say that there is almost no bass with awful mids.

So what would you advise to me? Any alternative till 240€.

And whats about an portable amp like Fiio E07K | E12 (would it fix the bass/mid problem?)

The people who said that these have no mids were the typical hype parrots that gravitate around new product threads. Having no bass AND bad mids doesn't even make any sense unless we're talking really cheap headphones that offer nothing at all.

These are more or less neutral with some valleys separating the bass, mids, and highs. However, if you use substractive EQ on the highs, you can make these a bassy can, and a good one at that.

The bass IS pretty tight on these. Sub-bass is very well present (these would be awesome for watching movies etc.) while there is lesser mid-bass, even though I find it adequate. It's not going to scramble your brains like the pro 900, but it is nicely present. The mids are a little back, but I didn't find them that lacking either. From a price-centric viewpoint, these do really well.

I can't comment on the K167's specifically, but from the time I had the K267's, I'm pretty much inclined to agree with the others that have responded to you so far about the bass/mids. Amping didn't really seem to make much of a difference on them though, they sounded pretty consistent regardless of what they're plugged into.

Also, what exactly is your criteria for that price range? Cause the M100's might also be a good option. They're certainly nicer for portable use, but the sound signature is quite different. The M100's certainly have deeper bass, but it isn't as tight as the AKG's; the imaging and soundstaging is also better, but they have a bit more of a dark 'V' coloration to the sound, as opposed to the Tiesto's balanced 'W' sound. The Sennheiser Amperiors / HD 25-1's are also another option. They sound a lot more like the K267's, but are punchier, and have a slightly different form factor of course. You can read my comparison between those two here.

does the bass of the K167 seem similar to those out of an SRH940?

I did something very lulzy to my pads. I superglued the old pads on top of the Shure pads. It looks terrible but it sounds so good.

Horrible phone picture but I don't feel like breaking out the dSLR at 11:30 PM.

^ ballsy move there, sir...kudos. I wonder if I could do something like this to my K550's to perfect the seal. You're right though, it's definitely not pretty to look at...

Love it haha :D I would be worried about midrange presence doing that though, from all my experience with increasing the distance between driver and the ear, the first thing I notice is that midrange takes the hit and gets more veiled sounding and you get more V-shape sound, not the case happening here? Maybe down to preference but I like my mids thick & in-your-face. :D
