I asked AKG about the three way bass selector, and they responded this:

"Studio"

provides a well-balanced sound - perfect for Mixing and Mastering

"Stage"

provides a bass-driven sound - this response will be well below 150 Hz - ideal for the stage, but also for intense bass sound way

"Club"

provides a subtle emphasis on the bass, which is located approximately in the middle between "Studio" and "Stage"

Really? I just ordered from AVShop.ca and their site seemed to indicate that they were in stock.

It also doesn't make sense to me why they would be listed in that order on the phones if that is true.
Least amount of bass>most bass>somewhere in between ?

Agreed, it's kinda 'weird'. I was hoping for something like with Headstage arrow- no boost, slight boost over lower frequencies, more boost over more frequencies. Anyway, the boost on K181 DJ worked really well so I have no doubts.

interested if this is a more compact K550 or something tuned differently outside of the bass adjustment

IT IS in that order, Studio at 6 o'clock, club at 4-5 o'clock and Stage at 3 o'clock. Ever thought that the AKG rep may just happen to give such order of explanation randomly for no apparent reason? :P

And makes perfect sense for "stage" to be the bassiest setting (at least I always assumed so) as in such LOUD environment you NEED plenty of extra bass to be able to hear the bass beats properly yourself while monitoring it during the performance. Remember these are really made for DJ use. :) Stage @ live performance and studio setting in the studio and Club is probably a good compromise for a bit more "fun"/enjoyable listening at home. These have big potential to become a huge hit among DJs but would have been even nicer without the Tiesto logo though, it's actually a bad marketing decision to have the logo on it as not every DJ like promoting him for sure but to me personally I couldn't give a damn though. :D

I wonder what's the hold up.

Moogaudio in toronto also has them listed on their website, and it says they have had it in their catalog since oct 01 but I called and they said mid december
