M50 vs XB700 vs XB500

Hello,

 

I've been searching for good cans the past 2 weeks and I've come to the conclusion that these would be the best for me. ( I'm open for suggestions though)

I've already read many threads on this site but I just can't come to a conclusion. I own a Sennheiser HD 558 and need cans for outside use. Unfortunately I have only been able to try out the XB500. I listen to dubstep, drum n bass, electro, glitch hop, rock, metal, little bit of hip-hop and a lot of liquid and melodical dubstep and drum n bass.

I would say stay away from the XB's coming from the HD558 considering how horrendous the sound quality is, but it seems you have already tried them. Also the XB's had poor isolation because of bass ports they have at the back of the earcup, which means they sort of act like a semi-open headphone letting sound leak in and out.

That's also what I thought, but I'm not sure how important bass is for the music I listen to. That's probably the only reason I'm looking at the XB. I don't know if the M50 has sufficient bass and whether I need punchy bass or a deep bass.

xb700 would require an amp... xb500 will give you huuugggeeee bass but you would need to eq it to get more balanced sound... all xb series need equing for better sound.... the m50 have very low bass compared to them but i won't say that they are bass light... you could also try ath pro700mk2 which have huge bass as well....

No. The m50's bass quantity is not even close to the head thumping you desire. The quality of the bass is good, but the quantity is just not enough. Despite of the lower quality i would definetly go for one of the xb series

You won't be disappointed with the xb500's. They have amazing bass for dubstep and electronic music. I had a pair, but the headband broke from me being careless. They are fragile, but they still sound pretty good with lots of bass.

 

I've also heard that the xb700's bass is kinda muddy, a lot like Beats by Dre headphones. Also, the cushions on the xb700 are kinda ridiculously large. Not to mention that the M50's bass wouldn't compare to the xb500's.

what? more like the 500's sound muddy. not the 700's

Is the bass on the XB700 a lot less? Isn't it better if I went for the XB700 since it has better sound quality and it's less muddy?

I wouldnt even call the m50's bass quality very good personally so if they are even boomier / worse than that then they will be terrible. For that price the Q40 have good bass although the build quality and midrange/treble are not amazing IMO.
