Thanks, but I had the 650 for 3 years. Nice phone, but ultimately just too thick and rolled off for me. I'm enjoying my DT880 Pro and consider it superior (for classical).

Ah, electrostatics! I had various Stax models through the 70s and 80s. Rather bright, sometimes creak, and seem to take forever to energise (maybe I'm impatient). Would be interesting to hear an alternative brand, though I'm pretty sure I'd never buy them. I'll do a bit of Googling.

try beyerdynamic T1 then biggrin.gif

Have you also heard the 250 ohm version of the dt880? And if you did, would it still rank as high as the 600 ohm version and be at the same place in the rankings still above the next can in line? Reason I ask is that I was looking for some classical headphones and was deciding between the higher clamping force DT880PRO against the DT660. The price is only about $50 difference between the two so unless the dt660 sounds better than the dt880pro, there is absolutely no reason for me to get the dt660 since I don't really need the extra isolation and sensitivity.

Not Dave, but they are about the same in sound quality. Maybe a wee bit less tizzy treble on the 600 ohm version.

This post contributed to my purchase of the HE-400, couldn't be happier!

Also, MacedonianHero, your headphone inventory is that of the gods! gs1000.gif

Dave doesn't count, he's an anomaly in the system.

He's the Tom Bombadil of HeadFi.

Dave's collection of gear is purely legendary.

Amen to that!  His collection truly boggles the mind.  When I first began reading his thread several months ago, I thought that he must have borrowed many of the cans.  And then I realized that he actually OWNED all of them. Judging by his postings and by our exchange of private messages, it doesn't seem as though a nicer guy could exist.  Fantastic collection... Amazing epic comparison thread... Wonderful guy!  beerchug.gif

I have a question and it's something I just noticed...You have the Phonitor listed as your preferred amp for the LCD2 (1 and 2), but not for the LCD3. Any reason for that?

I'm considering an Auditor purchase soon, is why I'm asking. It seems to be a very versatile unit.

Thanks!

Every time I look at this thread I feel tempted to ask to add the Sony MA900 over and over again. biggrin.gif

Not to mention 12,000 CD's. It's taken me forever to get to 2,000 and I pretty much have everything I want.
