HE-500 competes with LCD-2, HE-6 competes with LCD-3.

But some people like the HE-500 more than the HE-6.  It is an evolution of the HE-6 after all.

I don't see how

Having heard the HE-6 on the speaker amps, (well driven, in terms of SQ) HE-6 vs (well driven, in terms of SQ) HE-500 hands down for the HE-6, (in terms of price) HE-6 vs (in terms of price) HE-500 hands down for the HE-500

Just saying.. redface.gif

What will be the headphone with LCD-2.2 sound characteristics, but with more air and liveliness?

LCD-2.2 with vegan pads. :)

And an aftermarket silver cable.

Well let's see, HiFiMAN designed the HE-6 then later they took the same magnetic driver design and modified it to build the HE-500.

Nope - they didn't.

"The HE-500 uses a more complicated array of bigger magnets to increase sensitivity over the HE-5LE plus a different diaphragm to improve midrange performance. Sensitivity is 89dB, impedance 38Ω. Our portable players can drive it well. The magnetics are actually the HE-6's. The diaphragm was modified to provide better vocals and bass. The voice coil traces are coiled aluminum, not gold. Then we apply a different treatment to the surface of the HE-500's diaphragm. That makes it different from our HE-5, HE-5LE and HE-4 models. The HE-500 is better than the HE-5LE in almost every way. While the HE-500 lacks the HE-6's ultra clarity, its sonic signature over a regular headphone amplifier is pretty close to that of the HE-6 over a high-end amp."

Sounds like they incorporated the magnetics from the HE-6 and a modified driver to tweak some frequency ranges.  Then changed the conductor from gold to thin aluminum.  He doesn't say that it's better than the HE-6, but at $899 when it was introduced, they were clearly related design wise.

Looks to me like you are either

A: Trolling

or

B: Tryinig to convince yourself that the extra $600 for the HE-6 for a marginal improvement was worth it

It's not a matter of opinion. HiFiMAN did indeed modify the HE-6 driver design for the HE-500, thus making the HE-500 an evolution in their headphone line.

There are few believers in that HE-6 on speaker amp beats everything, most probably even SR-009 ( = ultimate headphone with no flaw)... yeah, of course.

In fact, there are many reviews prefering HE-500. Even David, who happen to prefer HE-6, says that the gap between HE-6 and HE-500 is definitely not big, rather subtle.
