Hey David,

Any chance you could check the HD700 again to see if there have been any changes after burn-in? The reason I ask is becosue i planning to buy either the HD800 or HD700 relativly soon and Im not sure if when i get to test them they will burn-in or not in the treble section (I like treble, but sometimes it peaks too much).

It will be mostly for Gaming (80%) and Music rest (all except dubstep, techno progresive and trance).

Catspaw get the HD800 there is a reason it is valued as the best dynamic headphone.
I really can't heard any pircing treble, it is breath taking clean sound, but HE6 treble can't be a bit too much.

I had the HD700 before I got the HD800.  No matter how much burn in there was, the treble peak never subsided.  When I head the HD800 at a HeadFi meet, I immediately knew that the HD800 was the HP for me.  Smooth and extended treble with deep rich bass.  Not sure how it is for gaming but for the music genres you listed, I'd take the HD800 any day assuming you've got a decent supporting chain.

Which of these would be considered closest to the TWFK IEM's of flagships? I have the HE-400 currently and I love the detail and transient response, but the sound signature isn't quite neutral. Would I be looking for something like a HE-6 eventually? I've read the list, just looking for some thoughts. I love the Rockit R-50's neutral signature. I previously owned the HD-600 but it wasn't as strong on it's speed and technicality.

Without knowing your equipment, the HE-6 or for portable the Etymotic ER4 with red filters will not disappoint.

Well I only have a Yulong U100 at the moment, I'm looking to make some purchases after the Bay Area meet in February, so I've got time to look around. I have been looking at the Lyr or some other semi-future-proof amp to use with the U100's DAC line out. It might be a little overpowered right now, but by the time I am ready to buy the HE-6 (I realize the LYR isn't enough for that though...) or whatever HiFiMan may be planning, I'll be ready for it. I've been looking into some closed cans too, which I've never done before, but with roomates now the isolation could be more important. Any other suggestions besides HE-6? maybe even more of a sidegrade/less of a jump from the HE-400? I love the HE-400, it's a very "fun" phone to me, but I really love something more neutral I think.

OK, HE-6 is not optimal off Lyr. If you desire isolation, the Etymotic is a no-brainer and can be run off the U100 no problems, assuming it's quiet enough. The HE-500 is good off Lyr, and perhaps the Alpha Dogs or Slant too which offer some isolation.

I realized what I'd written after I'd posted it. I understand that even a Tesla Roadster would struggle to drive the HE-6.

Amping problems aside, (like I said, I just have the U100 until probably February as well)  you feel the HE-6 is the sound signature I'm after? I enjoy the mids on the TWFK drivers a lot.

I haven't researched the alpha Dogs at all, I'll look into them.

Yes, I think you would like the HE-6s mid tonality. Running off a speaker amp with watt meters, us HE-6 owners are finding 10w peaks at loudest volume, so you would want to hunt for a speaker amp.

Has David abandoned this thread? Haven't seen a new review or post from him in ages.

I hope he's fine.
