The majority of people upgrade to LCD-2 or HE-500 from HD650 (if searching for similar sound)... It's almost for sure that you would enjoy both but it is definitely better to do an in-depth research on which one of those two to choose.

Both headphones can be used with two different pads and therefore you practically have four slightly different sound signatures... One of those four is possibly the one you are looking for.

I think the HE-500s or LCD-2 are going to be a good choice for you.  I think HE-500 is a greater departure from the HD650, so I may go with that.

If your budget is lower than what these cost.  As mentioned before.  The AKG 65th Anniversaries are good as well.

I also found that it depends on what you are driving the HD650's with.  I had them on a magni/modi and there was a 'towel' over them.  But I hooked them up to my Asgard 2/bifrost and the towel was gone...YMMV

I also do like (and own) the HE500's...get both...biggrin.gif

I hope that's not true for me. Just ordered the MnM stack with the idea of trying out the HD650 as well.

I have to say I read your review of both the HE-400 and HD600 and they along with others helped me decide to get both as I have the HE-400 now and the HD600 should be here tomorrow or Thursday.

I love the HE-400 and they do sound great with electronic music / EDM with great detail and clarity along with the soundstage and presentation and some of the best bass I've heard period.  The HD600 will be a nice change of pace HP because of its more laid back nature compared to the HE-400 so I'll be set for awhile and I'm so glad I switched from IEM's to HP's.

So thanks again as your reviews are quite helpful and I like the way you have them set also now I just need to figure out what HP I'm going to get next, maybe K 701 or I just need to save and get either the HE-500 or LCD-2.

Are HD600s more laid back than HE-400s? How about comparing to HE-500s? Please keep us posted. Thanks.

I've haven't heard the HD600 yet but from all the reviews I've read and people I've talked to say they're a more laid back headphone with softer treble that's detailed but not at all harsh or sibilant and the mids have a bit of color as well.  The HE-400 has a brighter treble but while I found it a bit much at first because I listen to mainly warm IEM's like the SM3 and BA200 but after a few days the highs sounded great and are very detailed.  The HE-400 over all has a lot of detail, as much as my e-Q5 that I compared them to to see how much detail they had.  Since I've been mainly bound to my house because of an injury I've been listening to the HE-400 about 6 to 8 hours a day so I have a very good feel for them now and they're worth every bit of the $400 they sale for imo which isn't the case with most of the IEM's I had, I always felt that most were priced higher than they should be.

I'll let you know how the HD600 sounds and how it compares to the HE-400.

I know that your choice between the 2 is the LCD 2 but in terms of overall use and comfort the HE 500. How far you think is LCD2 from HE500 in terms of sound quality?

The he500 combines the warmth of hd600 with the brilliance of the he400 I have had both and Akg 702 also hd650
By far the best to my ears is the he500

The HE-500 is the one I really want to get next but I'd rather find a nice used pair for around $550 give or take than spend $700 on a new pair.  My HE-400 I got used for $325 and they looked pretty much brand new when I got them.  I got the HD600 that should be here today or tomorrow for $310 new from AccessoryJack which is by far the cheapest I've seen them new.

There was an HE500 for $650 or so when last I looked on the used thread a few minutes ago.

There have been bigger deals than that in the FS section, it's all about being patient.... popcorn.gif
