Well you attacked me for stating a fact and then went after someone else who backed it up by attacking his post count number. I'm sorry you don't like that the HE-500 architecture is based off of the HE-6, but it is. Some people like slightly rolled off treble and more bass bloom. Some people don't. You're clearly the latter. Let's leave it at that.

Then we apply a different treatment to the surface of the HE-500's diaphragm. That makes it different from our HE-5, HE-5LE and HE-4 models. The HE-500 is better than the HE-5LE in almost every way. While the HE-500 lacks the HE-6's ultra clarity, its sonic signature over a regular headphone amplifier is pretty close to that of the HE-6 over a high-end amp."

Sounds like they incorporated the magnetics from the HE-6 and a modified driver to tweak some frequency ranges.  Then changed the conductor from gold to thin aluminum.  He doesn't say that it's better than the HE-6, but at $899 when it was introduced, they were clearly related design wise.

you heard both?

HE500 and HE6, the latest versions anyway, do indeed have identical magnet arrays; the only thing where they differ (other than their cup paint-jobs and logos) is their driver diaphragms.

HE6 has a diaphragm with gold tracings and some sort of a fine mesh sandwiching it, while HE500's are with bare aluminum tracings with some sort of glue around the outer areas.

Of course these different diaphragms impart them with entirely different sound signatures and amp requirements. They are really remarkably different in measurements, so much so that I bet people would prefer one over the other purely on the basis of voicing.

Like I said Dude.  I'm not arguing about who prefer what.  I will never question any ones personally opinion.  Where is someones preference and or opinion?

I also said - IMO  The 500s does nothing better than the 6s.  Period.

I was referring to the driver and not the magnet anyway..

Now you leave it at that..

This^

Maybe choosing "evolution" wasn't the right word.  But what I meant was that the HE-500 was based off of the HE-6 but modified for a desired difference in certain frequency ranges and overall sensitivity.  Which can lead to people preferring one over the other either way.

Shabby0t?  You just can't help being childish can you?  Keep changing your tune.  What you said before was not in your opinion.  You stated, in a know it all way, that I was flat out wrong.  Now that you have no ground to stand on you're changing what the discussion was about.  You are not worth my time.

ok but i repeat: you heard both, please?

I've heard both.  Does that change anything?  No it doesn't.  I didn't even tell you what my opinion between the two was.  What I said was that they sound different from each other and some people will prefer either one.  Please stop getting fixated on things that aren't related to the discussion.

My only disagreement with preproman, despite him acting arrogant and calling me names, was that the HE-500 was created by modifying the HE-6 transducer design and materials to create a different sound with higher sensitivity.  I quoted the owner of HiFiMAN saying as much.  He initially disagreed and subsequently claims that what I initially said was what he was saying all along.  He then decided to change the subject and talk about how he feels the HE-6 is better in every way than the HE-500.  There was no discussion on which sounds "better" on my behalf.

i have nothing to do with the other discussion.

the he-500 and the he-6 have the same magnetic strcture but different drivers and i think that the driver is the most important part

and i think that the he-500 is a good headphone but the he-6 is superior.

Phew that was a painful couple of pages to read.  Let's get back on track...

I've probably said it before, but again, this thread inspired me to grab the HE-500s, after which I got the Violectric stack, and I've been blissfully happy every since.  I was afraid I'd find myself forever stuck with upgraditis, but it's now been a number of months and I'm absolutely and completely happy.  :)

+1

The other headphones I've purchased always made me say "man these are great, but I wonder how much better [insert expensive headphone name here] would be?" But with the HE-500 I simply have no desire to try anything else, which is good for my wallet at the very least. Someday I may hear something that I like better but right now I feel like I've found the perfect cans to fit my tastes. I couldn't be happier with them.

I can think of two things:

1.) Cost substantially less.

2.) Not need a powerful speaker amp to sound their best.

Beyond that, there's nothing I can think of were the HE-500s best the HE-6s....my 2 cents.
