Thank you David.

Congratulations on your journey so far ... I'm sure it's not done yet.

Cheers

i don´t have the experience and the cd collection of David but i agree(about the headphones that i had and tried) with the majority of things.

i recognize one thing to david: the intellectual honesty

BRAVO!!!

You say, "There is no $200 headphone on the market today which impresses me as much as the K501." This is a discontinued headphone that you can only buy from individual owners and if you compare it to another headphone that can be bought on the secondhand market for $200, lets say a HD600, I would say it doesn't hold up well. Why did you say this/what did you mean by it?

Thanks for the excellent reviews!

Just a note, I did not authorize nor approve of the use of the CSD graphs thrown at your face. While CSDs may measure decay, these particular graphs as they are visualized were intended to be used to detect upper midrange and treble resonances, which do exist and are consistent with your findings of the T1 sometimes sounding "very hot" in the treble. The other issue I should point out is that various T1s I have obtained measured significantly different from each other. The one(s) you've heard have not have been representative of that of the graph.

Even then, measurements are only correlative to the subjective experience. And the correlation, while rather high, is hardly perfect. It has always been my stance that ultimately what matters is one's subjective experience, although seeing how well or how poorly measurements correlative to that experience is fun!

Great job BTW!

You bring up an interesting point.

If my phrasing was confusing, then I'll be happy to clarify.  The K501 typically sells for less than $200.  If you can find an HD600 for that price, that's obviously a better offer by the standards of the HD600's standard asking price.  But what I was actually referring to was the fact that the K501's original asking price was in that ballpark price and i don't think any headphone that is available right now at that price is at good in the field that K501 excels in.

unfortunately, its hard to find.  i put up a WANTED ad on head-fi some time ago and it was there for months before I was contacted by someone looking to sell their pair.

Congratulations on an amazing round-up. Best I've ever seen.

Just want to add my thanks to David Mahler for writing this. Doubt there will be a more comprehensive comparison of all the major well known headphones for a long time, if ever. Great read.
