yes probably mid to late february.  A lot has come up in my personal life lately, otherwise there would have been at least one other review already, but it's-a-comin :)

Awwwww... Here I was hoping for an Ultrasone Signature review. I guess I'll just have to settle with having ordered SP's for myself yesterday. bigsmile_face.gif

Hey David, the UERM review will be up at the same time as the LCD 2 review?  Or earlier?

I will probably do second, although it wasn't my original intent.

Hey David, Thanks for the great review! Have you ever have a chance to review ath-m50 which is so praised by a lot people? and for me, I think that shure srh940 is quite the good headphone also. If you have a chance to review these headphones, please do it, I think that it will be useful for many low-budget buyers who visit and seek for reviews on their anticipated headphones in this thread in the future.

Thanks!

While I think it would neat if David could do a mid-fi or entry-fi thread, this thread in particular is for flagship headphones and neither of the headphones you mention are in that category (the SRH940 was Shure's flagship 2 years ago though).

Sorry to disappoint you, but entry-level headphones are not applicable in this review compilation simply because of the huge gap in performance.

I think that shure srh-940 is really the good headphone (somebody compared it to HD800 http://headfonics.com/2011/08/shure-srh-940-our-man-is-comparing-it-to-the-hd800-is-he-mad/) that he should make a review of it sometime. But m50 is generally praised by a lot of people as you can see in this site http://kenrockwell.com/audio/audio-technica/ath-m50.htm , he compared it to Ultrasone edition 8 and Stax SR-007 Mk-II which are flagship headphones.

Not to derail the thread, but that SRH940 review was written by someone who was aggressively posting that controversial opinion in the SRH940 thread here on Head-Fi...and later got banned. He took down and re-posted his review on Amazon too since it created, again, a super controversial debate amongst the comments there.

I agree though that it is a pretty good headphone for $300 if you're interested in a closed-back analytical headphone.

I wonder what David thinks of the SRH940 vs SRH1840. The SRH1840 thread has had a lot of controversial discussions too with its odd extremely high distortion levels.

As for the M50 review....I'm pretty skeptical of it.

On direct comparison, the ATH-M50 sound about 90% as clean as the $3,000 Stax Omega.

......eh no comment. confused_face(1).gif

Wow, that well known in photography circles clown Ken Rockwell does phones now. Well, at least he is entertaining to read (laugh at), don't forget to donate to feed his growing family.

SRH-940 against HD800, is that the same guy?

It's kind of sad that people would push this kind of wrong info. A good old Senn HD25 is superior to the m50's and SRH-940's for heaven's sake... Not to mention you can get HiFiMAN HE300's (although open) in the same price range for a much superior sound reproduction...

It's just silly to compare items from entirely different price brackets.

Let's keep this thread for real headphones/ flagships gs1000.gif

Some of the headphones in this reviews are not flagship headphones as David mentioned in "Flagship status" of each headphone he reviewed. And from my experience with Sennheiser HD25, I found that this headphone has narrower soundstage than shure srh940.

I think those special cases are reserved for cans that are widely believed to be competitive in performance with some flagships though (evident by them being ranked about halfway in the performance ranking ladder).

If you just bring in a bunch of entry-level cans then they'd all get ranked into a big messy pile at the bottom of the performance rankings.
