HA! it depends on the headphone. With regards to the 307a I actually find that the HD800 sounds better on a low impedance setting and the R10 bass heavy sounds better on the high impedance setting usually. The differences are very VERY small though.

post #1608 of 374012/7/12 at 10:48amHello,
I have exactly the same impression for Stax SR507, I feel it's sound a bit etch and have a small soundstage.
But it stays incredible headphone with a detailed, liquid, fast, clear tone. I have a SRM007t amp.
I want to upgrade to HD800 balanced with headamp gsx or beta 22 or dna stratus. This kind of combo keep the positive aspect of my previous combo : liquidity, transient decay, clarity, overall balance ? I will have more fuller tone with better imagining and soundstage ?

My ranking right now:HF2 - LCD2 - HE500
Have to add that I listen to the Grados SE and the other two in balanced mode....and still for my ears, the HF2 can compete just nicely!
Also, have sold some balanced HD650 as they didn't get any headtime any more!
Wow that's a great little (compared to David 99% of us seem stingey!) combination of phones you have. I should have got those HF2's I should've taken the chance... But the safer bet is often the option for me when I'm spending serious money. I understand what you mean about technical ; I am beginning to think there is a technical side where the phones are more neutral and a fun side where they are delivering a more obviously coloured sound. It would seem advantageous to dip a toe into both waters.......post #1613 of 374012/7/12 at 8:02pm- DefQon

Hello David. Do you plan on testing other Ultrasone models, like the Signature Pro/Signature DJ/Pro 900/Pro 2900? The two Signature models are meant to belong as flagships alongside Edition 8 and 10, while the Pro 900 and Pro 2900 are the highest models from the Pro series.
Also, congrats on your insight for all headphones you tested. However, from the looks of it, it seems the list is expanding to the point where it might be a good idea to change the 50+ number to 100+.

Thanks!
I would like to include more Ultrasones eventually. I've owned several in the past that I no longer have. I've read a lot of good things on head-fi regarding the Signature Pro. I would definitely, like to include that. I think if this review were to reach anywhere over 65-70 units, I'd have to start borrowing for sure! But I'd love to see it grow into something even bigger some day.
