I was just about to purchase HE400 but would love to hear your thoughts, especially on how they rank versus the other headphones. When will you release the review? If it will be a while is there any chance of an initial opinion? Thanks

I reviewed the HE-6 plugged into a TV from 1985 :)
I don't want to say anything just yet, haven't even swapped the pads or tried more than one amp:) I promise to have the review up with a ranking by no later than Xmas Day :)
That's the hook up I've been looking for. I've got to give this a go..

If you crave ground hum as much as I do, then there's definitely reason for you to be excited!
Yes:(
However, I think its a good headphone! So if it was your intention to get one before Xmas day, don't have much doubt. I can't yet make comparisons. It wouldn't be fair. I can say unequivocally obvious things such as the HE-6 and HE-500 perform better when properly amped. No earpad switch is going to change that opinion. But regarding how it performs against the HD600, I cannot say with absolute conviction yet. They are very different headphones and I wouldn't want to say something here that I later take back or reform. I've spent roughly 4 hours with the HE-400 and none of it yet was what I consider to be listening critically or comparatively:)
You'd be surprised at the earpad switch. I know I was. Made more difference than a different amp.
Yeah I though that too with the HE500's
+2 with regards to HFM cans and earpads switch.
Absolutely astonishing work - by far my favorit topic on head-fi!
But I miss some headphones here. I would love to see how you would rank the JVC DX 1000 and the Sony MDR 1000EX.
Don't you have any access to these?
Wow this is excellent work, and an even better resource. Great job!
I'd also like to point out that "Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven" is probably one of the 10 best albums ever made. No joke. And I don't agree that the AD900s sound better than the K702. It's been awhile since I've heard the K702, but my Q701 are virtually identical and completely stomp my AD900s in sound quality across the board. And I listen to metal almost exclusively.
To each his own, though, I suppose.
