We just agreed on what would be the best hp for him. No hype.Although, I just ordered the a-100 mini X so I can further test the hps on the amp he wants..

We will be using a different DAC though.

I'd like to make a point here. Of course it's necessary to hear a headphone to make a final decision or even make an unqualified statement about it. However, one can certainly infer much from measurement combined with user reviews. Also, I think too much weight is given to anyone who's actually heard a certain headphone, even though it may have been at a meet, under appalling conditions with unfamiliar equipment and recordings. To me that makes any opinion highly suspect if not invalid. Just having heard a headphone doesn't in itself give one great authority. You have to have heard it under the right conditions, as David has--preferably at home with known equipment, known recordings and, if possible, a certain yardstick.

Finally!,hifimanrookie, you sir have made my day, i've been repeating this almost word for word for how don't know how long, and never got a comment, i tought ok, maybe my post is too vague and peoples prefer to comments on specific headphone brands and models, wich is fine of course, as long as we remember that all the variables you've stated do exist, and always have to be taken into account, therfore i believe that all opinions should be taken with a grain of salt, yes, mine too.
I rarely comment on headphones i have never heard, but if i do, i'll mention it, i figure i owe you guys that much, also,at the risk of boring some of you, i try to give as many details as i can in order to help peoples understand why i came to this, or that conclusion, example, two nights ago i was listening to Lindsay Buckingham's '' I'm so afraid'', on Fleetwood Mac's ''live in Cleaveland'' vinyl, with my Grado PS1000s, with my stock Technics SL-1200 TT with Ortofon 2M Black cartridge and my also stock Musical Fidelity X-CAN V2 hybrid tube amp, and it sounded so good that i just got lost into Buckingham's guitar solo, so much so in fact, that even tough i don't smoke, i felt like lighting up when the song was over, some call it music, i call this magic.
Oh! and i think some of you have been pretty hard on MHOE and owe him an apology, the man is gifted, he hears graphs, but seriously, i have a preference for Grado headphones, therefore i consider myself a Grado fan, but not a Grado fanboy, the difference beeing that i have no problem recognizing that other brands can make great sounding headphones too, i just posted in the ''HE-400 apreciation thread'' stating that i tought that i tought they sounded very good, and that they represented the best buy among the HiFIMan line.
Finnally i believe that when peoples become fanboys, they start to loose their objectivity, and when this happens they also loose their credibility, wich makes their comments pretty much useless, MHOE are you writing this down buddy?, just kidding, or am i.

Tonight's listening session began real late (just getting started). The HE-6 is plugged into my Woo 5 K1K output. It sounds wonderful!! Listening to Wynton Marsalis live at the Vanguard 1999. I was actually at the concert. I wish I could say I remember it sonically, but sadly, I don't. haha. But I'd be surprised if it sounded this rich when I was there. This sounds WONDERFUL!

MHOE, I just flipped between the LCD-2 (rev 1) and the HE6, I'd be very surprised if you found the LCD-2 to be closer to neutral (on my setup). They both sound amazing though.
post #1257 of 378611/24/12 at 5:19pmJust thought I would add, this is one of the best threads I have personally ever read on the web, amazing, thank you. I also own the HD600 and they may not be the best detailed headphone but they are so faithful and are easily worth the price I paid for them (£200) and would definitely never part with them.

Late? I've only begun to warm up the glass
before midnight. Some will argue tubes only take a few minutes - ain't gotta dog on either side the yard. But, since my approach to listening sessions is ceremonial, I'll let 'em run for an hour or two while I get everything else just so.
It's nice to see hear you getting back in there and luxuriating with your rig and good music. I envy your concert experience. I did see his two of his brothers and dad in concert; still waiting to see Wynton. Was disappointed I couldn't catch him and Cassandra Wilson some moons back.
Enjoy your session!

Thank u stacker45..but i think we all think the same..and everyone is sayingthe truth in his or her way..one said..u have to hear the phone on UR OWN RIG..thats only way u can be sure the phone gives u what u need in a phone..no phone is perfect..but as i said before..if u can listen to it for hours without fatique and feeling as if ur drowning into the music..stick with it..no matter which brand, model or price range..and seeing the reviews on the much cheaper phones i know i am true..for someone a sr225 is heaven..for the other a stax sr009..let us just respect each others opinions..if mhoe thinks he can read from graphs which phone is best FOR HIM..then we have to respect that..we are al here as we love music..right..so if i in any way insulted mhoe..my aplogies..we just don agree on CERTAIN things..he did say the he500 is a good phone though..sooo..be nice ok..
****! i just broke my headphone socket on the inside on my337...
u all are to blame for it.. I got all nervous because of all this argueing
just kidding..no not about my socket..****..and i just sold my spare amp..my mstage..this weekend no music for me
my new neutrik lockable socket will arrive on monday..and the local tube specialist will Exchange them on tuesday..wish me luck!
