Recommend me some music

At the moment i like (almost every form of )metal, blues, hard rock, classic rock, classis pop and johny cash.

I want to broaden my musical horizon...  Classical/orchestral music is something i want to try but i dont really know where to start.... Mahler, bach, mozart? Maybe some jazz to try.... Doesnt really matter as long as its not the crap from the charts and most radio stations.

In short; Recommend me music/cd's/artists to expand my horizon. Maybe taking my gear(DT880 and GS-1 amp) into account.

Nat King Cole, Blossom Dearie, Chet Baker, Clifford Brown, Louis Armstrong, yup, all i got.

Listen to Metal radios, particularly Epick rock radio. You'll find some interesting stuff.

if you want to get into some really different stuff (jazz, classical) try the absolute classics...Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, etc and ONLY get good FLAC recordings.  with Jazz, try out Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Gillespie, Armstrong, etc. there's a reason that certain names are well known and they are a great place to start.  The key with both Jazz but especially Classical is the highest quality recording you can track down.

Thanks for the sugestions so far. How much i love the genre and how much a metalhead i still am, I listened to tons of metal and frankly there is verry little new to be found. Save from some prog/advangardic styles. I use a CD player in my living room, is there a good source for (sa)cds? Preferably european. Or am i best off using HDtracks and burn to cd?

And eveything is welcome for consideration, not just jazz and classical, i need new flavours after all those years rolleyes.gif

How about Mahler? Worth to get some high def recordings? Came across that a few times and have heard people mention it.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005JS7V8W/ref=dm_dp_cdp?ie=UTF8&qid=1351660853&s=music&sr=8-7 For one, buy this CD. Dirt cheap and the best Planets performance I've heard. Good Decca stuff.

As for something a bit different. Try this one on for size.

This is my favorite piece of music ever. I'd call it a Neo Classical Soundscape.

Tune in radio: Smooth Jazz Expressions, Fusion Lounge, World's Greatest Melodies.

They're more accessible in terms of jazz and classical music, so you can get a good starting point.
