Don't forget my "poor man's" stats - the ESP-950.

Shaping up to be pretty epic. Texas stepping up to near NY/CA levels of drool.

No kidding.  I was already looking forward to Justin W. bringing his LCD-3, so the Stax offerings are icing on the cake.

Is it true that once you've had Stax, there's no going back?

See Maxvla.

Oh, and don't forget the drool cups.

You can go back, but you realize what you're missing. ;)

I know the phenomenon well, unfortunately.

It's called adaptive hedonism.  That which was once pleasurable loses its appeal once we are exposed to something of the same ilk that's more pleasurable still.  And so it goes, until we are unable to acquire a more pleasurable stimulus - at which point, we can no longer be satiated.

But we can escape these whirlpools by simply choosing to do so - as offered in my signature, below.

March 2nd 2013 - MotoGP (bikes) race @ Circuits of the Americas in Austin. Yay for more date conflicts.

Talked with one hotel (Hyatt Regency) so far about a conference room and the rates are too high ($2500 for ~2000 square feet (Hill Country ABC) for 8 hours). Sleeping rooms are high because of the race as well. I have an email out to the AT&T Conference center requesting pricing for their Conference room 301 ~1900 sq feet.

If we have ~50-75 people we're looking at covers ($10-20) getting us $500-1000 so that's our budget. Everyone is free to help look for a place. Ideally we want a squarish room that is around 1500-2000 square feet with plenty of power, available tables and chairs. I'm expecting the need for about 20-30 full size tables. I believe we've outgrown most library community room capacity with how many people have recently posted interest, but some of the free-ish larger spaces (Goodwill) can still accomodate us if needed. Here is a great site to browse to help find paid locations: http://www.cvent.com/rfp/austin-tx-event-venues.aspx?so=1

An alternative to one large room is several small rooms (3-4 rooms 500-600sq foot) that are in close proximity, ideally with an adjoining foyer.

update: Holiday Inn @ Round Rock looks like a good choice. They only have 1 meeting room but it's 1934 sq ft and should be cheaper since it's not a 4 star downtown hotel like the Hyatt. I have a request out to them now. http://www.holidayinn.com/hotels/us/en/round-rock/ausrd/hoteldetail/events-facilities

Looks like good access from 620 for us from the Lake Travis area; MoPac for those in the Austin near west; and I-35 for most everyone else.

Thanks a bunch for helping out. Been pretty hectic around my house lately.

Norris Conference Center looks great too. Have an email out to them for a quote on 4 of their rooms (the 4 on the left of this floorplan). Just west of I-35 on Anderson Ln near Crestview.

Located where the old Northcross Mall was, that's even closer for me.

Got a reply from the Holiday Inn. $1300 for 2345sq ft. Doable, but stretching it, though there's more space than cvent's site suggested. Waiting for a reply from Norris before doing anything, though.

It would be so nice if there were two rooms, maybe one main big and one smaller.  That might give a few of us a chance to really listen to some cans away from the inevitable, but worthy, gabfest happening in the big room.smile.gif
