Anyone have the gold XBA30?

I think it looks great but I worry that the white cable will get dirty and turn yellow lol

I want to sell my 3 for the 30 but can anyone confirm that there is a different sound?

Some say there isn't, but I think most agree they improved the metallic highs. I'm still curious to try them myself...

so let me get this straight...you found some of these to be laid back, yet you liked the sound of the RE-0, with no bass or energy, except in the highs? Now you see, you're the type of person who enjoys music plated with detail and transparency. Which is cool. As you said, too each his/her own. Now for me, I like a bit of energy and sparkle in my music, even at the expense of a little clarity, but not bloated bass or recessed mids. This is why the UE 700 is such a fun IEM for me..or hell...even my Altec Lansings, which I recently dug out of a box and repaired.

From memory my UE700 (now dead) also lacked some bass but I think the tips of the UE700s worked better. I always found the Hifimans to be so tip dependent for bass. I nearly chucked away my RE0s and my RE400s until I found tips that could bring out the bass. I found their bass really anemic until I could get the right tip. It took quite a while.

I disagree that the RE0 lacked energy. To my ears they were plenty energetic. Different ears, different preferences. Funny that I also enjoyed the UE700s alot when I had them

I bought my UE 700's two years ago, and pretty much NEVER used them because the bass was anemic and when boosted, tended to distort and the highs were so sparkly and unruly. They sat in my box forever, and then I recently bought some Comply olive tips, because a friend gave me one pair that I put on my now sold UE 500's, and WOOOWEE!! The UE 700's came alive! Nice deep controlled bass, and much more laid back but complementary highs. I've fallen in love with them. The comfort is so good, and now the sound matches the comfort, all due to TIPS, so I totally agree with you there.

What tips are the best for the xba3/30? I am using the medium sonys that came with them, they seem to slip of very very slightly on one ear and its annoying, beyond that they are good.

I cant use the small or xl ones either as I cant get good seals with them so Im stuck with the green sony pair.

I'm using meelec m9 bi-flanges. They are also loose because they're wide-bore tips but I have an extra sleeve inserted to make the nozzle bigger for a tight fit with the m9 tips. I got the sleeve from worn out comply's and tore the foam off them.

If you already like the xba3 sound signature you might not like the xba4. I suggest you audition them first. Personally I'd go for the Dunu DN-1000 if you want an upgrade from the xba3.

Could you elaborate a bit more on the sound of xba4/40? I would definitely be happy with more bass and especially a bigger soundstage.

I use Comply olive tips for the XBA-30's, and when I go into cold weather I use the Hybrid tips LARGE. I got freakishly big ear holes. Comply olives though reinvigorated my UE 700's and my IE 800's.

Do complys really give such a great seal that it changes the sound? Many give this impression, interesting.

Make sure you put on complys properly otherwise the mids and highs are affected

I think it's a combination of seal, bore size and depth, and the material of the comply's, because yes, it changes sound dramatically. My UE 700's were practically unusable due to the unruly highs and non existent lows. With the comply's, the highs got tamed and the bass come out rounded and articulate.
