i listen to most off gern except hard rock. 232'bass is not much on quantity but the quality is really worth the tag. Bass is rumble and huge but still clean and not overwhelm other regions. but you have to kick the bass with amp, to me i use the Arrow 4g (iphone 4s as source). The bass with amp will amaze you how it compare to Dynamic driver IEM, it's huge, punchy yet still clean.

The laid back mid will have the stage more open, no so in the face feeling, really suit for those gern you mentioned above

I've been using the xba-3 directly through a s3 (wolfson) for over a year now and I have got to say every time I use it it seems to get better like an old Martin acoustic......
The pair was made in heaven and listening to Autumn Leaves right now as I type I'm discovering newer depth in the music....
Only drawback is that Sony's hybrid looses shape after constant use for a year....

Interesting, that you actually enjoy the xba 3.

I had the xba 3, it was my first ba. When I bought it I loved it, but I soon started getting bored of it and thinking of it as a fotm iem. IDK. I got sick of the metallic tinginess.

I do remember it fondly, but theres no way I'm leaving my FXD80 or even my Soundmagic E10/30s to go back to the xba 3.

I guess I wasn't the xba3 type.

What Autumn Leaves are you listening to? (Sinatra? Nat King Cole? Clapton?)

That's sad...
XBA-1 was my first BA but I lost those and then I bought these...

Honestly at first I was a little put off by them but after use for about 2 months the sound completely changes....
Tighter bass, almost no metallic tinginess and better overall....

Compared to my momentums and hd518 I still prefer the xba-3 but I have an IE80 coming in on the 14th so lets see....

I'm listening to Clapton....
Love the guy to bits...

Any recommendations to mod the XBA30 to tame the treble?

Do you use the Hybrid tips???
They kinda help....

There aren't many mods out there for XBAs that I know off...
Actually I can't think of any XBA mods....
I just EQ my music...

To tame that notorious treble, which makes cymbal sounds like nail to my ears, use the comply t-200 ones. That also greatly improves the isolation too; I've tested it while i drive in freeway with xba-30 on, and the comply does geat job to block much noise to whisper. Also important note is to know the angle of your ear canal by cleaning your ears with ear cotton bud. This helps you to wear the xba-30 properly since the iem is bulky, short nozzled, and poorly ergonomic designed...

Once the comply is put, you can raise the volume without fear of the treble to destroy your ears.

I've had enough with XBA-30 - it is a piece of crap. "Pain", "Harsh treble", "sub-par isolation" are things I could say.

I have to be honest that it is my fault for buying "used" from one head-fier here (IEMmagnet but look like he got banned) and saw the foams in the nozzle were removed or altered. Compared to the original ones, the foams are filling the whole nozzle but the one I have, which is the used ones, are partially filled. As the result, the XBA-30 sounds very inferior compared to all my collections and it's the only earphones that give a pain due to peaky and harsh upper treble that drown the overall frequency. All the efforts to tame that treble like; adding foams, comply tips, selecting tips, and so on, were wasted. I feel like I want to destroy this XBA-30 for all the pain I've went through. Note to myself  to not buy any "used" earphones.

Here's a mod:

I had a problem when I bought the XBA 30 in Bangkok's airport, as I felt they are not completely ballanced

between the channels. As I result, I removed the foam inside the nozzle, and replaced it with foam that

exists inside the special "noise cancelling" tips that are provided with the XBA. Since one does not

use all sizes of these tips (I doubt that they make any difference anyhow), you can cut carefully these

foams. From their looks, they might be exactly the same as the original matterial. As I do not hear

completely equally in both ears, I added some more of these stuff in the right ear. Also, this helps to

remove the strong peek around 4khz.

What I am curious is why I heard quite a large different between the two channels (I tested them in

the same ear, as I do have some difference): the sub-bass was much stronger on the left channel. I have

a particular sensitive musical hearing, and am very sensitive to this.

Overall, I find these earphones, albeit not perfect, the best that I have so far encountered, including

the UE TF 10, which I have (actually UE TF 15vm, which is the chinese version, but its the same).
