xba30 are much closer to the xba40 than the xba3 were from what i remember.

FYI, the H1 has the best mids of them all.

I'm currently auditioning the Audio Technica EP1, and so far, out of the box, they remind me very much of a combo of my old HiFiMan RE-0 and RE-ZERO. They are very HiFiMan in sound signature, with high degree of transparency, ruler flat FR, with bass that's there, but not anything colored at all, with beautiful natural timbre and very clear and energetic treble. This without much burn in time at all. I'll have a proper impression review after 50 hours of burn in. Those who don't appreciate the HiFiMan sound need stay away.

Yea the H1 wasnt bad, the size and design was very cool, the sound was a bit muffled but it sounded good overall, the bass was strong but it sounded natural, the soundstage was awesome but overall the clarity was not as good as the xba3 for me.

I agree, very clean mids for a bass directed phone.

Wacking the XBA3s in the fridge to see if the cold affects the drivers and sound. Hope they don't get ruined. Trying for 30min

Um... I think you should keep it in an air-tight pouch(with as much air removed as possible). You do not want condensation inside the housing.

Chill-in rather than burn-in?

If he's giving them away afterwards, surely that should be chilling out...

I prepped my DAP and amp ready for the phone to be taken straight out and plugged straight in. The XBA3 was in the fridge for about 45 minutes after which I took it straight out of the fridge and wacked it in my ear and played snippets of few tunes I kind of knew well. Apart from the getting cold in the ears, I didn't really noticed a massive change in the bass or the mids, but the highs seem to be slightly rolled off (might just be placebo).

Just then I warmed up the phones again with my hands and listened again and it sounds the same, what I thought was rolled off highs wasn't really. IMO, the cold (from my fridge) does not change the sound, maybe I should try the freezer because my fridge is set at about 4 degrees celcius. On a plus side, they still work and are fine and survived

btw whats the logic behind temp affecting sound quality??

does it make diaphram hard for some time due to contraction  if at all sound changes??there can't be any other explanation:confused:

Somebody said a a few pages ago that the cold affects the sound and when it warms up it sounds better
