Thanks! Gotta love Tyll's reviews :)

Sorry about your lcd2's lol. Sounds like the Oppo 2's might be worth waiting for.

As far as the Oppo PM1's are concerned, my KEF M500's look pretty much just like them, so I'm good! :p

yup...looks similar...kef500 is tiny comparatively...n it slips off my skull quite easily.

Like wearing a pair of saddle bags.

Almost bit on the deal, until I read that the cable goes from 2.5mm on one end to 3.5mm on the other, making mass after-market cabling difficult, if not nearly impossible.

Will give the Oppos some more head time, and maybe afterwards have Ted build a custom UP-OCC silver cable for them.

Then I shall retreat into oblivion with the Mikros 90 and the PM-1, perhaps nevermore to be heard from on Head-Fi.

I have so many good books to read and so little time!!!

The two are very complementary in nearly every respect:

Mikros 90          PM-1

closed              open

supraaural        circumaural

visceral            delicate

candid              refined

forthright          reserved

dynamic           deliberate

treble bite        treble ease

midrange pop    midrange refinement

bass impacting  bass sculpting

extroverted       introverted

That first part nearly made me fall out of my chair. If the PM-1 really is on the same level of the Mikros 90 then the PM-1 is overpriced by about $1000.

The list doesn't even make sense. What the heck is "bass sculpting"? How is "deliberate" the opposite of "dynamic"? How are headphones "introverted"?

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

it is an ancient form of Mikrosian language...

for polite unemphatic malleable pulses of "bass"

...that numbs your brain after awhile, dopelike if u wish. :P

You sure? I would have expected your Mikros 90 would beat the Stax and Orpheus.

I mean, only after you gave them the required 5,000 hours of burn-in time.

Not that I'm glad that the LCD2 got knocked off, but it felt kinda cheap that Audeze had three entries on the WoF considering they're each basically tweaked versions of one another. One product from each family please.

SGD,

Couldn't resist.  Your Monster NTunes post always cracks me up!

Impacted- v. Sculpted- Bass

Extroverted- v. Introverted

hmmmmmm . . . [and all gibing and cynicism aside]

Translation:

The Mikros 90 have more of a direct "up front" presentation, while the PM-1 are reserved and draw the listener into the subtle, inner details of a recording.  Two very different listening propositions.  I'm surprised to find myself enjoying the Oppos as much as I do, because they are tuned in just opposite the direction of my normal listening preferences.

Cannot comment on the Mikros 90 v. Orpheus or Stax SR-009, since I have not heard either.

However, with the Mikros 90 on hand I STILL DON'T MISS the HE-6.  I really don't care what anybody says--including SomeGuyDude.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

The LCD 2.2 never blew my hair back. Preferred the HifiMAN "house sound".

Maybe I'll try the X or the 3, but am in no particular hurry.

What is your SPACEY mod? Is it similar to Lorspeaker's mod?
