Martin Logan Mikros 90 On-Ear Headphones - Page 312

I have to be honest: the Mikros 90 sound a little too hot and confined with the beta 22.  The HFI-780 are the better match.

Culture Club: "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me?"  It's a bit of a tizzy recording to begin with, but in truth this track is better laid out and more fully developed with the HFI-780.

"Time (Clock of the Heart)" sounds great with the Ultrasones [w/open cell foam mod on the pads].

The Ultrasones really ROCK with the beta.  No bloaty bass here.

Got the QC3 pads. Treble nerfed, isolation buffed. Haven't listened to them for more than 20 min.

Added bass also.

Mikros passing 40hr mark but no significant changes have been observed.. I expect more ahead of us :smile_phones:
sound is still amazing like I put them for the first time... Pata? You were right.. I begin to suspect those Slovak custom agents were burning my mikros 1 week while they lol'd watching this thread.

Anyways for any electronic chillout / ambient lovers.

That does not make this a bad headphone.  You, and a couple of guys didn't like the Mikros...okay.  The vast majority of those who have heard them do like them.  The majority of those who heard them think they have more than enough bass.   The majority of those who own them do not report defects or imbalances.

I don't listen to measurements...and I only trust Tyll's measurements (he knows what he is doing).  Placement is very important with the Mikros -- a few centimeters from optimal placement starts to degrade the sound.  I'm not convinced your measurements are accurate.    Your impressions, however, are irrefutable -- we know you didn't like them.

And as far as joker's Tier A list, there are some cans that IMO don't hold a candle to the Mikros 90.

This is getting way off-topic.   I'm in the Mikros thread if you feel a need to respond.

Sure thing.

Elvergun urged me to add my impressions in this thread so here they are: I think these headphones are great for $50 something (maybe even $80 if one digs the looks), and horrible for $300.

Problems I had w them: bass lightness (bass is there though), a little odd mids and rough treble. Mostly bass lightness though. That said balance from lower mids to treble is not bad, though there might be some emphasis around the 4k region.

These are very positional sensitive cans. In general I feel an ear-pad headphone that requires seal is very difficult to get right since there are plenty of chances to get improper fit and loss of acoustic impedance through leakage. An open ear-pad headphone with perhaps a more powerful driver such as some of the Grado and Koss offerings might be easier to fit w/o loss of bass response.

In terms of burn in, I agree that it's relatively easy to get acclimated to the response of the Mikros 90.

I did not find them comfortable. Too much pressure against my ears which might be required to get proper seal.

Found best bass response can be obtained by tilting the headband forward and letting the cups push more on the front.

Took me forever to get these pads on.  As some may know, I prefer less bass.

Using these in the mall today and isolate at least as good as decent IEM in my opinion. I have to admit I am enjoying these I'm the mall a lot!

what i like about the Mikros is

it has a way of dialing me into the music...

the pads suckkx air out of my ears, sealing off the world;

that penetrating soundprojection..

the clarity, the separation...

forward vocals,  liberated bass,

supreme lambskin comfort on the alphapads...

classical music finally, on my IPAD in a bz cafe is possible

GREAT VALUE, for under 150?

That's watz ol'bout Lors. If after your mods they sound much better than just a pair of bookshelf speakers, I would say that's an accomplishment and job well done.
