Both are great cans...and both are extremely affordable.

u can do this mod if u get the k550...takes the stridency away from the highs.

I think those pads might be too large, at least in the width.   The Mikros pads are about 2.25" wide x 2.75" tall...I think the Beats Solo replacement pads are about the closest as they list them as 6 cm x 7 cm.  I ordered a set from Amazon.  I'm sure that somebody has done this previously, and posted about it, but wanted to try it for myself.

Looks pleather....i guess should fit.

The opening of the centre hole looks wider than the stockpad...

u will need to mod the Mikros to tune out the change to the sound i reckon.

Give it a shot n let us know :)

Finally...good for you.   Now you can mod until you are blue in the face.

I don't have a problem with the highs of the K550...it's just that the Mikros 90 produces better highs.

I thought I had seen that someone tried the Beats pads...hard to keep track of all the data.  Looks like $6 on ebay.  $7+ on Amazon but I am ordering some other junk so free shipping.  Looks like the Beats pads have a plastic gizmo attached to the back...may have to mod the pads to mod the Mikros.  Ordered...should be in my hands inside of a week.

Looking forward to giving it a go...a little nervous.  Is everyone nervous the first time?

Listened to Neil Young "On the Beach" during the nightly dog walk...iPod Classic > Mikros...very, very nice.  Vocals and guitar are crystal clear.  These are amazing phones.

It's not worth it... just keep it stock. It sounds better stock IMO anyways. Unless you already did it and like it..in which case congrats on a successful mod and you're lucky you like it :P

As you know, stuff is subjective. Many people here think they're good. That doesn't mean you will. Nobody's right and nobody's wrong.

I dunno, I feel there is something funky in the presentation of the Mikros myself, but it's not so much of a turn-off that I'd get rid of them. I will say that the graph seems to show the issue I hear around 4k and 6k which makes them sound real nasal to me. They're less funky sounding with my mod, IMO, but that could just be a placebo. All I know is they don't bother me nearly as much in that region now as they did stock.

I also agree with the opinion that if I'd bought these at the $300 price, I'd be right disappointed and probably a bit p'ed off.
