regardless thank you for all your informative responses, i'm still subscribed to this thread so i'll be observing all these mods you guys are discovering. very cool indeed.

but a question off topic, why are the mikros being discontinued anyway...? is the company packing it in after their first headphone and iem release? what happened? the price is insane for something of this luxurious material and design.

Well, I hope you enjoy your Vmodas...and I hope you also buy a Mikros 90 sometime down the line...that way you can join the fun in this thread.  :beerchug:

At the same time, I can't help but wonder whether these headphones have taken a big bite out of their school work.  :basshead:

Have the mods deleted more of your posts?

I wonder if something like this could be added on over the stock pad?  http://www.amazon.com/Ear-Zonk-Replacement-Headphone-Cushion/dp/B00BW4RWH2/ref=pd_bxgy_e_text_y

So you're saying he can't join it as a spectator? :P

He can...but he won't really know what the heck we are all exited about.

It can be done though.  Waynesworld posted like crazy for  a month or so while he waited for his pair to arrive.

Thanks for all the posts regarding pad mods.  I'm sort of contemplating these: http://www.amazon.com/Replacement-Compatible-Sennheiser-Audio-Technica-MDR-7504S/dp/B00BUL3GJU/ref=pd_sim_e_5?ie=UTF8&refRID=02W2AVDKB9WGM9PBWMX9  Does anyone know the exact dimensions of the stock pads?

ya looks cheapish..n looks paperish peelable.

.n maybe still slightly too large on the width...the height looks fine.

Grado grado....big kettle of fish.  i had the 225i which was quite mellow..less bright than the 325...

and i had a woodied 325 which was mellow smooth. Havent heard a CLOSED grado yet.

But off my head, i would say the Mikros has a FINEr sound.. like more/denser pixels..in camera terminology..shruggs.

Both have upfront mids...

I would venture to say the Mikros have more bass texture...and can go bigger on the bass if modded.

Playing some POP music on my stockMikros now...

maybe.......... the MsPro....... might resemble a well burnt in Mikros.

above are from my dustymemory... :P

i doubt it... if u look at the stockpad, there is a tunnelhole in the foam...

once that gets altered..as in if u have a wider hole..the sound will become thinner..sharper..lost of bass.

if u keep the existing pad...the problem is HOW to hold this new pad TOGETHER with the stockpad.. :P

( glue...doublesidetape...paintertape...sewing... ?)

this is my HE6 pleather i believe...same size as the beyer pleather..

i am just loosely putting it over the stock when i listen at home.

dun think i am gonna be seen with this in public :P

The seal would be broken.  The foam from my l-pads lets it all out.

I prefer sound signature of the M90.  The bass on both goes down deep, but the M90 manages to also be punchy.   The highs of the Mikros are better...a little less strident.  The mids are about the same.   The presentation as a whole (bass, mids and highs) is just better put together with the Mikros.  Both give you great isolation.  The K550 has the advantage of being a full-size headphone - the sound stage is much wider and the comfort is unmatched.

Both are great cans...and both are extremely affordable.

Mikros #2 delivered to the office today courtesy of Newegg and the good folks at UPS.  No mods for me yet...started burn-in on CD player in office...The Ultimate Who disc 1 on repeat.  Should have about 20 hours in the AM, and 50+ hours by the whistle on Friday.  Probably wait until next week to try anything...want to get to 100+ hours to be sure they sound comparable to Mikros #1 before I try anything. stupid (like destroy a perfectly good pair of very sweet sounding OTB phones).
