Martin Logan Mikros 90 On-Ear Headphones - Page 28

I must have a REALLY good seal.  I've set the MDR MDR 7506 and Kef M500 as a reference points for somewhat neutral bass (of course the subbass is recessed though). (even the Kef has slightly emphasized bass)

I was actually thinking just that......is the clamping force really tight? If so, the drivers and pad cover might be squashed against your ears, blurring the highs and emphasising bass. Mine were tight at first, but the bass was always of the lean and tight variety....and the top end was 'stat-like.

Funny thing is the left side is tight 😎

swap in some memoryfoam?

The Mikros 90 really seem to come into their own after about 200 hours.  Am currently in the process of selling the HE-6.  There are a couple of things that they do a little better than the Mikros, but once you get used to the unique technical/musical synergy of the 90, everything else leaves you feeling dissatisfied.  Will be running the MLs out of my Fitz-improved Bada PH-12.

So you like them more than Monster Gratitude?

Well they sound better.  I loosened the clamp to about the clamp I have with the KEF M500.  The treble has come out a bit, and comfort has slightly increased. They are getting better.

All in due time!

Alright.  Up till now, I've only listened to rock and pop on these.  I'll try hip hop.  ITAL by Lupe Fiasco.  I can still hear that distortion somewhere in the upper mids to lower treble.  Its like these have completely metal cups and certain frequencies in this region reflect off of the back of the cups.. Its quite annoying.

Yes they are better then the gratitude 😎

Funny.  It was a hard spot in the upper mids/lower treble of the K701 that bothered me.  I don't seem to hear it with the MLs, but I'll listen some more tonight.  How many hours do your headphones have on them right now?
