That deal of the mikros is too much for us to handle!!!!

On a serious note, I really hope you get them, forget the mods then, since it isn't really needed unless you want some fun in your mikros! :p

Speaking of which, what do you think of the p5s?

No worries...Newegg is all over it...already a claim in to the USPS.  Should have replacement pair next week.  I really like my P5's.  They have a slightly bumped bass, and nice mids...highs not quite as crisp as the 90's, though.  The P5's are not, and are not claimed to be, reference SQ...definitely colored.  Sound really nice with my JDS C5, though.  My P5's have been temporarily (I hope!) commandeered by my daughter.

Perfect, this is why I love newegg. :)

Hmm, makes me want to get the p5s or the p7s by the way you described their SQ! I do like a small bump of bass, but the highs are definitely a turn-off for me on the p5s and cls, well, except that I have a second mikros so it's all good!

One thing I like about claims is when they avoid using reference sounding, otherwise that coloration would get me!!

Not like these mikros though! These deserve the praise they get, and then some!

P.S. your daughter is pretty lucky to hear those p5s, bet she loves them. :)

Now to catch some zzz's, enjoy those mikros everyone, and lors, I know that you had those mod posts, but I was hoping you'd continue the journey in modding these mikros to their very best! Best of luck!

Wayne,

Aren't you using the Elastoplast in concert with vestigial Lors MODs?

Or are you using it "solo"?

It depends.  If you love the bass of the M80 you might not like the Mikros.   These two models are worlds apart - one is refined and analytical, the other one is a bass cannon created to rattle your brain.

You can always modify the Mikros to get sound closer to the M80 if you are a basshead.   Perhaps you will find out that you are not a basshead after all and you will be able to enjoy the Mikros in its stock form.

I'm willing to bet that the modded Mikros 90* will beat the M80 at their own game.  You only "think" you've heard a "bass cannon" until you mod the Mikros, mon.

*EDIT: Referring to a variation of the seminal MIKROSHYPEDBASS mod, now superceded by the LorsMikros,

Put on the LorsMikros last nite...after a fewdays with the stockMikros...

totally forgotten it was on my head, just sounded like a BIG can, full, spacious.. lovely on my setup.

Not so much a Bass CANON.

(But if i strip off the leather..then i get a harder slamm n more resonance for that headshaking

BATsMOBILE effect. The bass mods are chameleonic, it can take on various flavors depending on your taste.)

A few days ago I remove the leather/felt from the bottom of the cups. In concert with the elastoplast, I felt (hallucinated?) that the soundstage opened up some, and I was hearing more dynamics. But not 100% sure. I was also thinking of removing the blue tac that's around the circumference of the cups to see how that effects things.

Now though I have my hands on some angel hair and some dynamat. So I'm going to try either or both of those in concert with the elastoplast. Might just be even more magic!

Btw #1, I am not sure if the elastoplast mimics the stock material quite closely, or if it leans more towards more bass. I think the latter, but I can't be sure without stock on hand. But for me it sounds very good, so I'm in no hurry to touch my elastoplast :)

Btw #2, I also just received my modded T50RP's. It has been difficult to impart them from my head lately. Quite the different beasts from the 90's, but doesn't make me love the 90's any less (they have very different qualities).

Am planning on going back into the one BASS modded pair and either completely remove or significantly reduce the Blue-Tak.  The last time inside, I used the bottom of a chopstick to "gouge and texture" the Blue-Tak.  Want to go back in, diminish/"modicum-ize" the Blue-Tak, spread it much more evenly, and apply a very uniform and consistent texture into it.  Compared to my second modded pair--which uses NO Tacky--this one [with the Tacky] sounds a bit narrower and less airy [NOTE: this is NOT the latest LorsMikros Mod--but a variation of the HEARTHRUBASS Mod] but the BASS is rock solid and articulate to the nth degree of depth.

Put the dynamat on the plastic driver housing, just above the fully open Rabbit Hole, for resonance control.  With all that increased airflow, I figure the housing is susceptible to unwanted resonance.  Might cover the dynamat with a small strip of the Mikros packaging sheet foam [the same foam that Lors cut into 1.5" washers] to see if I notice any less of a  "reflective" character due to the exposed foil, but to tell you the truth I really don't notice anything like that now.

Should be getting another stock pair in soon.  Not sure if I want to take off the port stickers, though--this pair will more than likely be a gift.  Might overhaul/completely gut the first pair I modded and try the Elastoplast-only.

Another thing I want to do is compare MLs stock-v-stock.  I am almost convinced that the last pair I opened and am currently running stock, sound better than my original stock pair(!).  The next chapter in MikrosCrapScience will be a discussion on "stock-to-stock" variation between pairs.

What?  True modders don't use chopsticks.    Do you think MarkL and Mr. Speakers use chopsticks to mod their headphones?

Send me your address so I can ship you an X-Acto knife.  Geez.

Amateurs.

Lors,

I think so.  This one should be coming hot off the production line.  TTYTT, I didn't realize that the cosmetics had changed.  Maybe the innards have been tweaked to further perfection as well.  Should be delivered in about three weeks--or three hundred Mikros 90 HYPE thread pages--whichever comes first.  :smile_phones:

Can't wait to hear the Mikros 90 "sing" even better!!!!

*EDIT:

The wood-patterned model is the BCL SE, which I did not get.
