if u are ever gonna peel away that sticker...might as well leave it OPEN..

n just mod the cup itself.

N if u cant tame that bass...well at least u can fall back on my mod :P

But nontheless....go try something..anything.. or drill some holes on the cups...

lets do an OPEN can mod :P

Updated the HoleSomeMod..
http://www.head-fi.org/t/633514/martin-logan-mikros-90-on-ear-headphones/3660#post_10354108

Without peeling sticker.
thin foam at the base, hard felt at the lower end of the cup..

uncongested airy clear mids....u get bigger more weighty slamm on the bass than stock smily_headphones1.gif

I highly recommend stockists to try this v simple mod with v little risk.

==================
Some modding notes :

Tried packing the cup with dishwashsponge...clear upfront mids...thin bass. NO GO.

Tried dishwashing scouring pads, about 5mm thick.. denser than the sponge
clear upfront mids...good body n punch on the bass. ( sounded like an AMPERIOR..v upfront )
Good but not GREAT.

Tried leather...it adds a more edgy / sharper impact than stocksound..NO GO.

+1

As good as the stock Mikros 90 sound, I almost invariably recur to a modded set.

Right now, even with the M90's being right out of the box they are quickly becoming my favorite.  The extra clamp on the M90's does make them a tad bit much for my slightly gigantic head.

Couple of people mentioned using microfiber in place of filters and it works out well, plus it's washable so no ear-gunk issues smily_headphones1.gif.

Have some microfiber cloth with my "Auric Illuminator" disc treatment system.

Might give it a whirl.

Wayne uses a "partial closure" treatment on the full bore.

Sure, more porous material might possibly be better, but it's more practical to use what's on already on hand. No harm in just trying - it's not permanent after all.

I want to clock in a few days of constant burn-in so I know that the sound is settled for sure. I haven't been keeping tabs on how much burn-in they've had so far so I reckon around 72 hours should cover it. Then I'll look at mods. I'll start with making holes in the original sticker - might as well try it since I can always peel it away after that but I can't try it if I peel it away first.

A main point of these cans for me is that they have good isolation, so I've got no real interest in an open mod.

Indeed. I just think that covering completely and then poking holes in makes it easier to eliminate variables when it comes to matching both sides. Then again, it seems that there are obstructions in some peope's holes (snigger) and variables like circuit boards and single-sided entry so maybe trying to make both sides the same is pointless anyway.

Where have all the modders gone?  Are you guys finding new material to cover the famous hole?  Are you searching for new and exotic leathers?   Are you making new cables out of silver, platinum or gold?

The loneliness is driving me to despair.

Lol. Looks like Lors and Pata are going strong!

As far as I am concerned, once I got my bass levels equalized with the "label partially covering the left hole" mod, I wanted to then reduce the overall bass and get back some clarity/details in the mids and highs, so I did the "elastoplast fabric over both holes" mod. Since then I've just been listening :)

I Am Back!
What is all this schiit here?
I leave for a few weeks... and I have to read a thousand posts?!? Lol!

Basically what the next step in the Mikros evolution,
Is to control and keep the bass while increasing the soundstage potential that THE HOLE can give...

Time to pull up the sleeves, hmmmm.

They should because yours is defective and the mod only brought it out.
I read all the back and forth posting.
You just need a replacement and that's just the bottom line,
Because I said so! Lol tongue.gif
^ lol thank you. My assumption is that if the mod didn't result the same way as it did for every other pair of headphones, then these must be defective. Not too mention that I did state the imbalance when asking for a replacement--probably the main reason they allowed it.
