If we can shape the cup physicalvolume with blue tac..would tat balance out the sonicvolumediff as such??

Physical volume.

That can be controlled by carefully measuring your Blue-Tak.

That should translate to sonic pressure volume, but would it be discernible?

i cut out two pieces of CARVEN thin 1mm leather ( same bellycut that i used on the base of the cups )

and replaced the two foam that i stuck under the drivers.

The sound effect :

an overall SLIGHTLY more clarion sound, from vocals to shimmer on cymbals to drum snap...( also spelled as B R I G H T E R )

And the reverbs might hang just slightly longer in the air, very slight. i am being picky..Can be interpreted as a slightly RICHER sound.

No resonance issue. The mids remains upfront, not recessed.

Overall, i think those who liked the original stock Mikros sound will find this signature FAMILIAR, albeit in a BIGGER soundscape.

I was fearing the fatigue factor..running thru my testsongs now...i am holding up so far :P

all sounded good, no glaring weaknesses...think its a matter of what of sound temperature u like.

( like a silver vs copper cable type of situation )

I wont be updating this variation to my post in 1804 for the time being.

This mod is reminding me more n more of the T1...

Russell Watson belting out GRANADA now ...on a HOT SUMMER NITE...demanding my attention on this mod. Powerful !

CoCo Lee singing closing number A Love B4 Time in CrouchingTiger...could almost see her under the spotlight, her voice soarrrring beautifully..what a damsel !

How about the leather washers underneath the foam washers?

:D

this would be my next level of investigation ...

for now..i wanted to isolate/understand the effect of just the leatherring ..without the foam.

( the last time i stacked the leather over the bluetac on the base of the cup...

the sound was TOO organic..so i kinda have a feel of what to expect if i do the leatheroverfoam.)

Foam-over-leather.

Got back inside the BASS-modded pair and removed the Tacky that was covering/sealing the headband tube ports. Also Dynamatted the back of the (plastic) driver casing.   Mids are nicely opened up and BASS is not so thick.  BASS impact/concussion is still a little strong for my ears--BOY, do these things move air when the Hole is opened!

Instead of using an elongated piece of rectangular felt at the bottom of each cup, I used a 3/8" semi-circular piece with the straight edge aligned toward the center (rounded edge pointed outward).  Wanted to ask: what was the effect of elongating that felt piece?  Did it attenuate some of the BASS slam?

I am thinking about putting some very porous acoustic material directly over the Hole to retard some of the airflow and attenuate the BASS just a tad.  That way I can move up to higher volumes without the BASS pressure being so domineering.

My foam/chamois/Dynamat mod sounds very open.  Bass slam is down/manageable w/bass pitch still excellent, soundstage is very relaxed, mids are more open and full, treble is very transparent.  This mod, with the Auvio cable and the KMF amp sounds just right to me.

But when I want bona fide BASSHEAD slamm with R&R tracks, and really want to plumb the depths of the DEEP, I reach for the LorsMikros(BASS) on my home rig.

:smile_phones:

It was to reduce the bass resonance / tighten the bass / add more bite .

================

i reckon(?)  the effect of the aluminium foil on the dynamat is somewhat similar to the felt as far as adding IMPACT/ CONCUSSION is concern..maybe MORE? Its METAL !!!

Not sure what variations u have done in your BASSmodd...lolz  u added foam open cell etc etc.. Its a different bassmonster of your creation.

I have my tots about DYNAMAT...when used in area such as a car boot, it is meant to absorb roadvibration so that it wont be transmitted to the subwoofers/drivers.

But if u are using it as a REFLECTIVE surface...( as in the Mikros..then u are gonna get the METALIC tinge /comcussion ..as u mentioned.  Food for tot.

In the Lawton mod, the use of dynamat was smouldered by lots of Fibrefill....hmmm... .

The above views are not scientific...just my guess...wild or stupid or might have some sense. :P

I try not the fill out the chamber with cotton or foam or fibrefill....

i dun like to buy a guitar or a violin with the soundbox stuffed..much as u might hear a reasonable good sound...

My goal is rather to tune the soundchamber until it produce sweet controlled sound.

Just my observation of musical instruments.

Sounds like a jackpot here....the YING n the YANG looks balanced.

Softsoft chamois as YING....HardMetalic dynamat as the YANG...

modulated by the neutral foammmm....

i should try this when i get hold of some dynamat.

Separate modding thread has my vote as of now! Reading 10 posts of mods that all sound like the exact same thing every 3 hours is getting kinda tired.

Ditto putting stuff into the cup, thus far.

Whereas Wayne seemed to managed snuffing his left cup thru some paper streamer or something..
Where is Wayne..he needs to present his thesis/ solution to us for scrutiny.

I m curious too, incase the next new can I opened up is unbalanced..tongue.gif

The first time I tried balancing the bass, I put 2 sheets of party streamer over the left hole, and 1 sheet over the right hole. That seemed to work pretty well, but I didn't do intensive testing at the time, and I removed that mod.

The "fix" mod I have right now... I took some label material and cut it to resemble how the "earwax" in the right driver looks, and put it over the left driver hole, and oriented the opening in the same direction as the opening in the right driver:

Then to reduce the bass overall a bit I covered both holes with the elastoplast bandaid material. I am very happy with the sound right now, and am now experimenting with what I want or don't want in the cups. In a few days I will be trying dynamat and/or angel hair.

But I repeat, the elastoplast baindaid material hole covering is working great (for me, with my particular bizzaro 90's). The bass level is perfect, and it's tight and controlled. The mids and highs are clear and intoxicating. The soundstage seems wider and deeper and the imaging seems really good to me. That 3D dimensionality is there.

For all I know though, they are back to sounding like they did in stock form! I think they now have a bit more bass, more air and more of the 3D like quality. But it's been so long since I heard the stock 90's that I honestly can't say for sure.

Doesn't matter. What matters is that it's working for me and I've been listening to these exclusively for 2 days straight and enjoying them greatly.

Elastoplast all the way baby! :D

I agree.  I'd like to hear less about mods and more about new people reviewing the M90

If a new modding thread was created, it would be nice for all parties if the modding posts could be easily "moved" to it. Probably not possible.

There needs to be a new thread for the M90 MOD.  It would be nice to get back and love these cans for their price and value.  This may be the best bang for the buck $$$$ available today!
