1. THOU SHALL NOT JUDGE THE MIKROS POTENCY WITHOUT ATTEMPTING TO PAIR IT WITH YOUR AVAILABLE SOURCES (and trust these headfiers' recommendations on a good source.)

Thanks for providing an example, that PS looks mighty fine, now if only I had the monies.  I probably will with ebay, as I can sell my re700s there.

And you also made a good point with them being musical, they're not like other headphones that contain fatiguing (or prominent) mids or highs. :basshead:

The GCHA's foil, IMHO, is in its roll-off at the upper HFs.  I want that shimmer from cymbals and that unlimited sense of air that comes from the uber treble.  The PS has KILLER Bass and luscious mids, though.

Am holding out for a Lehmann Black Cube Linear for a suitable SS match with the MLs.

Am listening to a custom-made KMF [Kent M. Faqua] SS headamp in my office at the moment and it sounds very nice.  Might take it home and run it with a better source and hear what happens.

More detail please!

That aside, I am at the bottom of Africa and it often takes two months for things to get here. Just last week I received a book that I ordered in NOVEMBER, guys. November. It was a Christmas present for my sister, too :triportsad:. (Speaking of which, off topic, if anyone wants to read a hysterical Blog (the author of which wrote the book I ordered), go visit Hyperbole and a Half)

wang_yifei on eBay has a lot of cheapish pads (and a few cables... ). Doesn't someone wanna do it? FOR THE MIKROS MADNESS!

Just for the record, sewn up HM5 pads are off. Way too big. The Mikros really reflect their namesake in their size.

A pair of K518 pads coming my way...hope it fits.

Dust off my LCD2...ooooooo...such a beau...love this can forever. Love at first sound too..unfatigueing.

The timbre on this can is delicious...i need to stuff goosedown into the Mikrosbelly n see how it sounds.

It's just the MikrosHearThruBass mod but with the headband tubes Tackied shut--no bass "ports".  Whammin', slammin', buffed bass but a little too congested and hard hitting in the mids and treble.  Soundstage shrinks, too. Will try to get to the fix tonight and play with the headband tube ports.

These headphones are FUN to own!!!

Been groovin' with the stock Logans and the Auvio cable.

Will I be the first MODDED-back-to-Stock REVERT???

. . . Probably, not.  :smile_phones:

Right. So whatcha gonna do about it? I'm not sure how much of a difference the tubes being closed off makes.

With the headband tubes closed off, you lose a lot of spatial sense--soundstage shrinks and gets less 3-D, the mids become shallow and the treble gets fatiguing.  Bass is rock hard and terrifically detailed, though.

I am going to open the Tacky over the headband tubes and insert the BIC round stic tops in, to partially port the air up the tubes.  Have an idea with just a smigden of very light foam elsewhere, too.  I am hoping to regain what was lost but keep the bass deep and lean.

Lors' "goosedown in the tubes" idea sounds fascinating.

======

to my ears, i will avoid putting felt directly under the driver..

there is a kind of soundstage wall of sort ..less hear thru.

Another note...opening up the HOLE will require more POWER from your source to optimise it.

I modded n tested it on my ipad, and it was good..was sitting in a cafe with a screwdriver..n some felt. hehe

.but when i plugged it into my home amp..

it was FANTASTICCCCCaaaa...that clarity n bass n staging were just more FOCUSed.. FIXED ..LOCKED IN.

and the sound reminds me of the stockMikros.. a more penetrating sound.. Pataburd might like this.

I prefer the current mod but just a little tighter in the bass, so i extended the felt by a half 1/4inch =2/8 inch

and it worked, to my ears. this will be my mainstay for the home setup.

I used a half-circle piece of felt with flat side aimed toward center of cup.  Might add half circle(s) and extend the felt reach.  It may be the felt geometry.

So that's a 3/8" by 1/4" felt piece at the bottom?  1/2 * 1/4 = 1/8, right?

Haha...some of you are nuts.

While you guys open and close your headphones, measure this and that, cut little leather pieces and examine every little crevasse to see what you can mod next, I just sit back and listen to the sweet sounds of the stock M90.

I just sit back and listen to the sweet sounds my Mikros 90 with ET1 cable. Aside from cable, they are still an unopened virgin Mikros 90.
