Martin Logan Mikros 90 On-Ear Headphones - Page 175

What's the problem people are having with the stock cable? And you can't just use any off the shelf cable with this because the receptacle jack is recessed into the headphone so some plugs too wide to fit? Would monoprice cables be any good? There is one that looks fairly thin profile.

I see that this back to $69 on newegg. Is it too late to order for the rebate??? Rebate expires 2/28 and today is 2/28?

All the hype makes me really tempted to get this but I don't have an external amp and seems like mod work and extra $$ needed to really get full potential out of them.

Guys, I just want one-way ticket to this Mikros-hype-train-express - consider me interested. I placed an offer to Sonic Elextronix, let's see if they reply something reasonable :) too bad even Amazon cannot ship them to EU for $79:(

^ Nothin' is wrong with the stock cable on these, in fact i LOVE everything stock on these. But we're just messin' with them for funzies cuz welp.................... we can. haha  The cable jack needs to be thin so it can fit into the recessed plug of these Logans is all, most aftermarket cable that are designed for portable cans should work, such as v-moda, beats, etc etc etc.

And they are crazy receptive to lil' mods/ cable/ pad changes, etc which makes them very revealing and fun to play around with esp. if you have different sources, etc around.

Yeppp i would grab a set with the $20 rebate since today is the last day and they dropped the price back down again. For ~$50 after rebate WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU NOT GET A SET!!! Or even MULTIPLE SETS!!! LMAO :deadhorse: Cuz even some cheapo Mee/ Brainwaz/ other generic brand iems can cost as much if not more, c'mon folks this is a no brainer buy tbh.

Response from Sonic, when I sent them neweggs price.

We regret to inform that your beat a price request was not approved.
This decision was made because your request did not meet the following
eligibility requirements:

  - The competing retailer sells the item below our own purchase cost.
We also do not match rebate offers.

Who here would pay for return shipping if I find that these really don't live up to the hype :P

One thing that I do like is they seem to be VERY portable. Especially with that nice hard case :)

Ha - good luck. You shouldn't have any problem selling them though. If I lived 50 miles south, I'd tell you that I'd buy them from you if you don't like them. Sadly though there is a border in between us that costs $35 :(

Regarding the portability, they are very much so. They are super light, and the case they fit into is very compact. The case of the M500's is just a bit too fat to be super-portable (unlike the Mikros case).

The mod is very easy.

My modded pair sounds great straight out of my laptop.

*Edit:  The stock pair sound great, too!!

mochill,

You and I must have gotten the 1/4" OD version of this cable.  Most of the others are 3/8" OD on the plug barrel end.

Glad to hear that you are enjoying the ET-4, along with the Predator and myself.

[elvergun, sfwalcer, RAZR, Fajro . . . and the Good Doctor should be reporting next week as well.]  :smile_phones:

Got the 3 ft Auvio cable today, and have been listening for about 2 hours.  The barrels are 0.23" (approx. 6 mm) diameter.  The socket on the Mikros is about 0.28" (a hair over 7 mm).  The cable is not very flexible and the 3 ft length is just long enough for me to stow my iPod in the pocket of my hooded sweatshirt while listening...too short to reach pants pocket (I am 6'4").  The cable appears to be well made, and pretty sturdy.  It is not very flexible, but this may change with continued use.  I am not certain how much improvement, or difference, there is in the SQ compared to the stock cable...too soon to tell, but clearly there is no degradation to the SQ...the sweet Mikros sound transcends cable choice.   This was purchased at Radio Shack for $14.99.  I ordered the $2.99 cable from their web site (free ship to boot)...6' and not really practical for a portable set up.

Took my Mikros to RS today, and eyeballed the Pipeline ET4.  The clerk took one out of the box and as expected it doesn't fit the Mikros OTB as others ave indicated.  Didn't get it, but like the longer 4 ft length though.  May need to have another look at it.  What is with the arrows?  A directional electrical conductor...who comes up with this marketing nonsense.  Next thing you know we will have peeps saying that the SQ is degraded if you put it in backwards.

Will do! I might hold off on the chugging until after getting the tape off THE HOLE intact. After that, chug fest!

Tbh, I'm a bit surprised that you enjoy them with the bass mods. I thought the bass might be too much for you, or that you would think that other facets are degraded. So, it's pretty cool that you are liking the mods.
