Martin Logan Mikros 90 On-Ear Headphones - Page 151

I'd consider it also as long as the price is under $30.

VIABLUE 3.5 mm plugs at both ends.  On the Mikros 90 end, Ted had to strip off the plug barrel and custom finish.  40-strand UPOCC silver.  Length is 2 meters with a nice Litz braid.  Looks as good as it sounds.

Will try to get pictures up when I can borrow a camera LOL.

Not under $30 for a UPOCC silver cable.

. . . Forgot to mention: the Burson HA-160 is in, too.

I let it thaw out last night.  [We are going into another deep freeze this week.]

Plus, I did not want to commit the crime of "Upgrade Compounding", since the new cable came as well.

Might plug in the Brute from Oz overnight tonight and listen tomorrow, Deo volente.

PS Audio GCHA is due Thursday.  :smile_phones:

Still searching for a Lehmann BCL . . .

Reiterating, the Mikros 90: "She's an expensive date".

Cheers thanks :)   Got lots of questions on them haha

Did Ted use these http://www.viablue.de/com/phono_plugs_3_5_t6s_small.shtml  ? Viablue T6 item # 30539  as they have OD of 9.0mm, so trimmed outer barrel off 3mm? The other T6 item # 30540 has 13.5mm OD.

Until you get a camera :D, do you know which braid type you got ? round or flat ? Impressed that we can get a 4 wire 24awg braid into our tiny plugs for the Mikros, now I'm *_* over the possibility of an 8 wire 26 or 28awg square braided recabling.

Is yours bare naked or did you pick the offered MDPC free sleeving?

pricewise I guestimate: 5′ pure 24awg 40 strant OCC silver with Viablue plug 3.5mm $220 +  $20+10 to get to 6.5feet (2meter) + $5-10 for trimming job  + $7 shipping

So beautiful, so worth the pain uh ?

So Newegg gave me a $20 gift card since I missed out on the rebate for the Mikros. That's a good way of bringing a customer back.

I just got out my V-moda cable and tried it. I concur with other reports that it muddies the highs and sense of space compared to stock. I will not be using that cable as an option anytime soon again!

...Contemplating stopping at a Radioshack to pick up an Auvio cable to give a try.

@ericp10

They brought you back, but they lost me because I didn't get one. :D

Why didn't I get one newegg?! I bought one from you two weeks ago, others have been getting it! :(

Glad newegg has the rebate though, 59.99 after getting the card from the mail...I might get another mikros now..since the kardon CL went out of stock...

Some people already got gift cards from them, which begs the question...

Why didn't I get one?!

End point. :p

Did you call and ask? I asked for the rebate, but got a gift card instead. I was cool with that.

I ordered the Auvio cable on ebay. I found it for $9.99.

Just re-cabled the Mikros 90 with a Teds Headfood UPOCC silver cable.

Ran them with the Fitz-improved Bada PH-12 tubed w/1x JAN Philips 6SN7WGTA and 2x Tung-Sol 6SN7GTB, crossfeed on lowest level.

IMHO, neither the HE-6 nor the HD-650 approach the transcendental, eminently musical synthesis of detail, extension, resolution, balance, coherency, tonality and natural/organic 3-D spatiality of the Mikros 90.

I have absolutely no regret for having sold the HE-6 and absolutely no inkling to re-visit the HD-650.

;)

I'm glad you're enjoying them! Heck, I got the HE-6 out of it :D

I'm liking them too - just not in the same role that you are so to speak. I just feel that they lack the smoothness and musicality that the HE-6 and HD650s have. For me it's just that the HE-6 are just as good as the Mikros in all of the qualities that you describe plus the added benefit of musicality and being open so I get a better since of space and a better sense of separation. In the case of the 650s all that really matters to me is that they're the HD650s - there's something about that sound that makes me put them on the same level of the HE-6 despite my fully admittting that they lose out as far as detail, extension, balance, and spatial accuracy.

We'll see what the Pipeline cable does to them

Hmm, I didn't do that, I'll get to call them later for a rebate as well, maybe they'll give me that or the card.

Thanks eric!
