Well, my second pair of 90s came in earlier today. Just got a chance to open em up about 20 minutes ago and they sound as if they need to open up a bit. Anyways, I plan on doing the Maxx mod sometime tomorrow or Wednesday.

and especially troll the newcomers to this wonderful headphone. I'm enjoying mine pretty well, it sounds airier than it did before, but still not quite up to the clean and euphonic sound I hear from the re700s!

Definitely interested in the re-700s as well as how they compare to the modded 90s. I can't recall, did you say you were getting a second pair of 90s?

@Lorspeaker

Just noticed you were on the CAL 2 thread. I'm guessing you ended up not biting?

Oh the pad over pad mod front, i posted this a lil' while back.....

Oh the P5 front can't help you there cuz never heard of them. :  (

It is an older gen nano with the 30 pin dock...using a Fiio L9 LOD between the nano and the E11.  No go on the Go-Dac...to many other amps and DACs laying around and not being used.

Anyone else have any experience with the B&W P5's and ML 90's?

Zombywolf, in this thread the 90's have been compared more than favorably to both the m500's and hp50's. Both of those phones compare favorably to the P7's. The P7's are generally considered superior to the P5's. You do the math and BUY THE 90's lol!

I got the second pair last week! :)

I will mod the ones I've been using this week,  hopefully.

Also, I mentioned that the re700s are power hungry, but the martins need even more power to drive them, looks like the martins will sound better!

P5 has a more full bodied..mellow sound..doesnt extend top n bottomwise like the mikros.
Kinda like a esw9 but on ear version. I did enjoyed the p5...owned it twice. The clampforce on the P5 is less.
Errr..u heard sonus faber speakers b4?

I reckon a mikros with the fiio cable or beats cable might put the mikros as a better buy if u like full bodied presentation;
u get better extention, detailed textured sound...deeper soundstage.

Oh...ok, awesome! Can't wait to hear what you have to say. Really, at this point if the mod and the CAL 2 really shine I think I probably won't buy anymore headphones until I'm ready to pull the trigger an open back. Heck, I'll probably send back the CAL 2 if the modded 90 really pulls through and maybe put the money toward the te-05, but I'm really waiting for the price to drop for it. But yeah, it's pretty awesome how well these seem to scale.  It'll be interesting to see what pataburd has to say whenever he finally gets his hands on that Burson.

have not heard nor read up about the Beta22....its a DIY rite..just took a 5mins read. :P

BCL gave me a sort of baseline reference neutrality to help me calibrate  how warm or refined other gears are.

Each session with this amp leaves me in awe of its teutonic excellence n musicality,

and kept me wanting more, of a supposedly piece of cold studio-spec engineering.

( contrasting with the easy joy of tube amps), worth every dollar i spent on it.

Then i sold it.... y.....ask my wallet... n my desire to listen to a BALANCED dac/amp.

suspect i will be bored quite fast  by another potentially pop-ish can from the initial feedback on the Cal2  :P

What i really wanted is a portable can that resembles a P5 in physical quality...but with high clarity. ( enuf to play classicals on my ipad in a Mcdonalds )

But what i didnt expect is how HOW CLEAR this Mikros is...those texturesssss on the soundssssssss....

( there goes...hyping myself into buying a 2nd pair.. somebody SHOOT ME PLS.)

I have some carcasses resting in the garage awaiting resurrection day.rolleyes.gif

I haven't tried soldering wires onto the drivers yet..those are so tiny n I dun know which goes where..blush.
Yes correct its the diver not the cup,
So transplantation wont benifit sound much unless you like to change it up for other reasons. ..
The biggest problem is the pads
Changing them will be an issue as the driver relies on them to deliver the bass and sound.
Swapping pads didn't help me BUT maybe that pad-on-pad " SF " posted works.

The Mikros90 are pretty close in size and appearance and a logical choice.
Not to mention they make the P5 sound like tiny mud cans, in comparison... sorry to say!
I don't own but listened to them P5 on two occasions..

Impressed!!!!
Out of the box - the treble is extremely well done + forwardish, midrange is decent, bass is good and really rumbles when called for. Overall a very tight precise sound signature. Enjoyable for sure.
Doesn't have in the instrument seperation and clarity of the HE-500 for sure, but for the price... nice!!!
Slight comfort problems, clamping force is annoying-ish + very finicky with the fit.

Could be the best portable headphone I've heard yet

SOOOOO:

Impressions on the bass-port mod? Could do with a bit more bass air flow, just hard flipping through all these pages for impressions lol (this thread really blew up)

Also it's been an hour and comfort is pissing me off already lol, this is like HD25 level of vicegrip on muh head. SFWALCER! How's your over-ear mod? Any changes in SQ?
